Your Guide to Hiring Outdoor Venues in London

Summer in London is brief, so take advantage of the warm days to hold your event outdoors. The city offers various types of outdoor spaces, each suitable for different occasions. Whether it's a beer garden for a casual birthday or an elegant garden for a corporate function, we've got you covered with a list of outdoor spots to suit your event.

Pubs with Outdoor Areas

Celebrate your event in a classic pub with a backyard or garden. These party spots are perfect for summer and provide shelter in case of rain, making them a great pick for casual parties or live music events. Check out The Minories, a traditional pub with a lovely garden, just a short walk from London’s famous landmarks for your next party.

Rooftop Terraces

Take in the breathtaking London skyline while enjoying a refreshing cocktail on a rooftop terrace. Perfect for both daytime sun-soaked events and evening celebrations under the stars. Wondering where to party? Roof Terrace at Uncommon Borough is a flexible space with stunning views, conveniently located near London Bridge.

Gardens

Host your event amidst nature in one of London’s beautiful gardens. Gardens provide a stunning backdrop for photos and videos, making them ideal for events with photographers or guests who love snapping pictures.

Patios

For easy accessibility, consider a patio venue. A floor-level space can be a great option for an event where accessibility is the key requirement in your venue hunt. Usually paved, patios should be convenient to anyone attending. Patios are also a good choice for events like concerts or gigs, as there won’t be many obstacles for the performers to bring in their gear. Check out places like the Private Outdoor Patio at Uncommon Fulham, a chic coworking space offering outdoor packages, perfect for team outings.

Boats and Yachts

Make your event truly memorable by hosting it on the River Thames. Enjoy city views and a refreshing breeze, whether it's a day party or an evening celebration. West End On The Thames offers customisable spaces and river cruises for stag parties, birthdays,  and more.

Lawns

Lawns are great for large functions like a family picnic or networking event. Before you decide on hiring such a venue though, contact the venue manager to make sure the place can host the event you have in mind. The Garden Atrium at Shoreditch Gardens is a naturally shaded space close to the city, perfect for big events.

Outdoor Activities for All Ages

Integrating fresh air games and entertainment is a fantastic way to add fun and engagement to all the outdoor events in London - from birthdays to family reunions. Here's how to choose and set up activities that will keep everyone entertained, from toddlers to grandparents.

  • Classic Lawn Games: Set up croquet or giant Jenga to break the ice and encourage  guests to mingle and interact with each other.
  • Interactive Stations: Create DIY stations for crafts like kite-making or flower crowns. These stations not only entertain but also allow guests to take home a memorable keepsake from your event.
  • Family Competitions: Organise competitions where families can participate together, such as a three-legged race, sack race, or a water balloon toss. Offer small prizes to add a competitive edge and watch as teams of families and friends band together for some lighthearted fun.
  • Treasure Hunts: Tailor a treasure hunt to your venue to promote exploration and teamwork. Hide clues around the garden that lead to a treasure chest filled with goodies.
  • Outdoor Crafts: Provide a crafts table for guests to create themed keepsakes.
  • Live Music: Hire a band or soloist to provide a lively soundtrack. For kids, consider magicians or puppeteers.
  • Movie Under the Stars: If your event stretches into the evening, a movie screening under the stars can be a magical conclusion. Set up a screen and project a family-friendly film. Provide blankets and popcorn for a cosy cinema experience in the garden.
  • Chill-out Zones: Designate quiet areas with seating for relaxation away from the activities. Create chill-out zones with comfortable seating, perhaps around a fire pit or under a canopy of lights.

Ensure accessibility for all guests and choose activities that everyone can enjoy. If you’d like to see even more ways to make your fresh air party amazing, have a look at 16 Top Outdoor Party Ideas for 2024!

Booked Roof Terrace at The Solo Kitchen & Bar
5.0
I hosted my 35th birthday party at Solo Kitchen & Bar and honestly couldn’t recommend it more highly. When I was searching for venues, I wanted somewhere that felt special and flexible without the huge price tag and corporate feel that so many private event spaces have. Solo was exactly that. We had exclusive use of the upstairs space, including the rooftop terrace, and it worked brilliantly for a large birthday celebration. One of the biggest reasons I chose the venue was its flexibility with the weather. The rooftop and side windows are fully retractable, so you can adapt the space throughout the day depending on conditions. We were able to have the terrace open and enjoy the sunshine, while knowing we had a great indoor space if needed. The setting is also surprisingly beautiful. Although it’s right on Bethnal Green Road, the venue sits above the park, so you’re surrounded by the canopy of mature trees and greenery. What really impressed me was how peaceful it felt. I was initially worried about traffic noise, but once you’re upstairs with the doors open and music playing, you barely notice the road at all. Most importantly, the team were exceptional. Leo, Georgina and Aisha went above and beyond from the first enquiry right through to the event itself. They were warm, accommodating, responsive and genuinely cared about making the day a success. By the end of the process they felt more like family than venue staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and having that level of support made organising a 50+ person event feel remarkably stress-free. The food, drinks, atmosphere and service were all fantastic, and so many guests commented afterwards on what a great venue it was. If you’re looking for a venue for a birthday, engagement party, work event or private celebration in East London, I genuinely don’t think you’ll find many places that offer this combination of flexibility, atmosphere, value and genuinely wonderful people.

Booked N6 Event Space at 3Locks Industrial Brewery Riverside Views
5.0
Susanna was absolutely amazing throughout the entire booking process, from when I went to view the venue to being there throughout the event to ensure everything ran smoothly. Her communication was excellent and she really made the experience easy and enjoyable. The venue is a hidden gem within Camden, my guests and I had a fantastic time and I would definitely recommend this for private functions. We had no issues with the toilets and in fact, were very pleased that we had toilet availability for the guests in a busy location. The setup was great and Susanna really goes above and beyond to ensure the event goes exactly as planned.

Booked Voysey at Mary Ward House
4.8
I valued the really good communication with the venue right from my first enquiry, and being allocated an event manager for all queries and arrangements. I booked this venue because it has beautiful indoor and outdoor space - an elegant light airy room with access to a spacious walled courtyard which seems like a secret treasure in central London. And I also chose it because I could bring in an outside caterer. All the staff at the venue on the day were friendly, helpful and flexible and did everything to make the party a success. I'm so glad I found this venue.

Booked Upper Terrace at Cinnamon Kitchen
4.8
I had planned a surprise birthday at the anise bar in cinnamon kitchen and it was amazing! The food was great and especially all the staff! They were extremely helpful and looked after us all so well on the night so thank you to them and the manager on that night. I can’t remember all the names (I’m so sorry) but one that I do recall is Amaan who was so great (there was another waiter on that night and he was amazing too!). The anise bar area is so spacious and was well set up prior to our arrival. They have a music system as well which was great because we could play our own music. The food was extremely good and the staff super warm and welcoming! I would recommend having an event at cinnamon kitchen if you are thinking about it!

Booked Terrace at Stephen Street Terrace
5.0
I arranged my company's annual Summer Party and after looking for many venues in central London I found this hidden gem close to Tottenham Court Road thanks to Steve. The venue had everything we wished for – absolutely delicious food, beautiful interior, a large dance floor and big outside space. It was a perfect venue to finish off our day that started with a treasure hunt around central London. Florentina did an excellent job from the moment we booked the party, until it finished on the night, making sure we all had a good time. The service and staff was excellent and I really have nothing at all to complain about. I cannot recommend Stephen St Terrace enough!!

Booked The Bedouin Tent & Garden at St Ethelburga's Centre

I have to say a Big Thankyou to you both for making us feel so welcomed .... right from the first call by Nicholas he was so. Calm and welcoming. He was very helpful and very reasonable with what we were looking to do in the party . On the day, Thomas was very helpful very kind with everything... we had a long journey , we were lost , baby was crying , so many things were going wrong but Thomas was so kind and helped with everything... Being an event organiser I goto so many venues where it’s all about there venue, their walls, furniture, they restrict you from doing almost everything but here we felt so welcomed and relaxed so we could actually enjoy the space All my guests Loved the venue! They looked at prices and I will be recommending this to most of my friends. Would definitely try to comeback for our next event. Kind regards
