Book by early autumn. The most popular corporate spaces in London start taking festive bookings over the summer and fill up well before December, especially larger rooms and prime dates like the Fridays before Christmas. As soon as you have a rough headcount, send an enquiry and lock in the date so it can be held for you.

Run through this quick checklist before you book. Each point has a concrete number to check against:

  • Guest count: confirm the space holds your group comfortably for your format (small up to 80, medium 100 to 150, large 200+).
  • Budget: the average minimum spend is around £1,500, so a £2,000 budget comfortably covers a medium space for 100 to 150. Always ask what the minimum spend or hire fee includes. For something cheaper, festive spaces start from £700 (see affordable Christmas party spaces).
  • Occasion and atmosphere: match the space to the crowd, from a function room for the office party  to a cocktail bar for friends or a private dining room for family.
  • Catering: ask for a menu tasting and confirm portions per head. Across our festive reviews most parties rate 4.7 to 5.0, and the most common gripe is buffet portion size and value, so pin down what is included before you commit.
  • Area and transport: pick somewhere near a tube station your guests can reach easily in December.
  • Extras and fees: check add-ons like a DJ, photo booth or decorations, and any cancellation fees, before you sign.

Before booking, see our list of questions to ask the venue manager.

Which space suits your group best, whether it is friends, family or work?

Match the space to your crowd: polished function rooms and restaurants for colleagues, Christmassy cocktail bars and rooftops for friends, and warm private dining rooms for family. Larger teams can take a whole space for exclusive hire, while smaller groups often do better in a semi-private area.

Group The vibe Best type of space Ideal size Budget guide
Work / colleagues Polished but fun, easy to mingle Function rooms and restaurants; whole-space exclusive hire for big teams. Consider warehouses, ballrooms for corporate teams 60 to 250 £1,500 to £3,500 min spend
Friends Lively and social, drinks-led Decorated cocktail bars, rooftops and semi-private areas 80 to 125 from £700 min spend
Family Warm, relaxed and intimate Private dining rooms and cosy restaurants with Christmas menus 50 to 120 £52 to £90 per head

For a family gathering, warm private dining rooms and cosy restaurants tend to work best; browse small Christmas party spaces for more intimate options, or affordable spaces to keep the budget in check.

Which London areas are best for a festive party?

Each area brings its own festive draw, from Christmas markets to light displays and decorated streets, and all are well served by the tube. A top pick in each:

  • City of London and Bank: the historic heart, at its most magical around Leadenhall Market, whose Victorian glass arcade is dressed with a towering tree and lights, minutes from St Paul’s and the Sky Garden.
Top pick: The Folly, near Bank station, with quirky decor and room for up to 600 for a big work party.
  • Fitzrovia: a short stroll from the Oxford Street, Regent Street and Carnaby light displays, so guests can take in the West End’s biggest shows on the way.
Top pick: The Green Man, near Goodge Street, from £200 minimum spend with a vintage feel for smaller teams of up to 60.
  • Tower Hill: set beside the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, with the riverside Winter by the River market and its lights close by.
Top pick: Balls Brothers Minster Court, next to Tower Hill station, roomy for up to 280 from £500 minimum spend.
  • Bloomsbury: elegant Georgian garden squares with the British Museum on the doorstep and the Covent Garden lights a short walk south.
Top pick: The Marquis Cornwallis, near Russell Square, homely and festive from £33.95 per head for up to 100.
  • Covent Garden and Holborn: the most festive corner of the city, with the Piazza’s 55ft tree, giant golden bells and hourly snowfall, the Seven Dials canopy of light and the Somerset House ice rink all within reach.
Top pick: LOCKES Bar Covent Garden, classy and central for up to 125; Simmons Holborn is a lively alternative for up to 200 from £750.

Worth exploring nearby too. Neighbouring areas each have their own character and price point, so widening your search often turns up a better fit, whether that is riverside views, a livelier bar scene or more space for your money.

More areas: Shoreditch, Canary Wharf, Liverpool Street, King’s Cross, Soho, Mayfair and Greenwich.

Booked The Terrace at Studio48 Bar & Kitchen
3.9
We had this venue hired for our work Christmas party. Walla is the person I first contacted and throughout he was extremely helpful and professional. Our server (Layla) was so lovely and helpful. There was a small issue with our food and she came over to double check and rectify it. Considering how large a group we were, the staff did amazingly to accommodate our large food order and keeping our tab within budget. The venue itself is very nice, we sat in the mezzanine area, which was very cosy. There was plenty of space for us all to sit and the dimmable lights are a nice touch. I was even able to move the tables to create a more social space for my staff. Overall, looks exactly like the pictures, is very cosy, and the staff are lovely. We had a fantastic evening in the end.

Booked The Cocktail Bar Tables at LOCKES Bar Covent Garden
4.9
We hosted our Christmas party at Lockes Wine Bar in Covent Garden, and it was fantastic from start to finish. The venue has a warm, stylish atmosphere that was perfect for a festive celebration, and the location couldn’t be better. The staff were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and professional, making sure everything ran smoothly throughout the evening. The drinks selection was excellent, and the pizzas were a real highlight — fresh, delicious, and enjoyed by everyone. Our guests had a brilliant time and commented that the evening felt both relaxed and special. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue and would highly recommend Lockes Wine Bar for Christmas parties or group events.

Booked Backstage Basement at The Spice of Life - Soho
4.1
We recently hosted our Christmas party at this venue, and while the overall experience had some positives, the buffet was extremely disappointing. At £30 per person, we expected a substantial and satisfying spread for our 50 guests. However, the buffet did not live up to expectations. The food portions were very limited, with only one small piece of food per dish per person, which left many of us still hungry by the end of the event. This hardly resembled what we expected from a buffet, especially considering the price. On a positive note, the staff were excellent. They were very hands-on, helping us set up the venue and preparing drinks at the bar quickly. Their attentiveness was definitely appreciated and made the overall experience better, but the lack of food quality and quantity was a major letdown. I would recommend this venue if you're looking for a well-organized event with great service, but be cautious if you're planning a buffet. The food offering did not justify the cost, and unfortunately, that took away from what should have been a great night. Would I return? Possibly, but I’d look into alternative food options first.

Booked The Snail Bar at L'Escargot
5.0
Had an amazing work christmas party at L'escargot snail bar. Was so nice having our own private room, with bathrooms right next to it, it's own little bar where we could decide in advance what drinks we could have available. The food was lovely and a good quantity. We were allowed to bring our own speakers and play our own music. A pianist came half way through and played for a couple of hours, which we actually didn't realise was part of the evening, was a nice touch, although would have been better if we'd known in advance so we could decide if it was actually right for our event. Overall eveyone had a fantastic evening, and the bar staff were excellent.

Booked Games Hall at The Joiner on Worship
5.0
Our experience was exceptional from start to finish - from the procurement and booking stages, to planning and execution. The team were incredibly flexible to our requirements and nothing was too much trouble - every single member of staff we met throughout the process was super helpful and friendly! The team were proactive about making sure our requests were always taken care of, both in the lead up and on the night itself, and it couldn't have been easier to get in touch with our main contact to ask questions and make arrangements when we needed to. The space we had on the night was perfect in terms of size and decorations and the Gaming Room went down a treat - everyone in our team agrees that it was our best Christmas Party ever! Thank you so much to everyone who made it such a huge success. You're all wonderful!

Booked The Basement at The Phoenix
4.8
Katie, the venue manager, did a fantastic job at organising our work Christmas party at The Phoenix. She was very helpful and friendly and communication was quick. The staff on the day were also very polite, efficient and ready to help (e.g. when the photo booth didn't initially start up - luckily it did in after 20 minutes!). The venue size was good for our party of around 130 people - it felt cosy but not too packed. Decorations were festive with some Santa hats, crackers and an Xmas tree. We had buffet catering which was very tasty and worked well for the venue layout & party size. There were booths and also tables scattered around so people could sit and eat. After dinner the staff quickly cleared the area so we could start dancing.
