Barbecues are prohibited in all eight Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Greenwich Park and Richmond Park. Rules for council-run parks vary by borough, with some allowing BBQs only in designated areas or under specific conditions. Check the rules for the individual park before planning your event.

Yes. Some venues use a minimum spend instead of a hire fee. You reserve the space by agreeing to spend a set amount on food and drinks during the event. Minimum spends on the current London BBQ listings start from around £300.

Among the current Tagvenue listings reviewed, The Edinboro Castle in Camden starts from £300 minimum spend for its covered awning. The Rose Fulham and The Solo Kitchen & Bar in Bethnal Green both have outdoor spaces starting from £500 minimum spend. Prices vary by date and booking period.

It varies. Some venues have a BBQ facility on site, others offer a BBQ menu prepared by the venue, and some provide the outdoor space only. Check how the BBQ is provided and whether external caterers are permitted before booking.

For a summer BBQ, it is worth starting your search early if you need a specific date, outdoor space or larger capacity. Availability varies by venue, so check your preferred date directly rather than relying on a standard booking window.

It depends on the venue. Some outdoor spaces have covered areas or an indoor backup, while others do not. Ask what the wet-weather plan is before booking, particularly if most of your event will take place outdoors.

For central locations, look at venues around King’s Cross, the South Bank and the City of London. Current examples include The Derby Rooftop and Rotunda Bar and Restaurant near King’s Cross, Doggett’s Coat and Badge on the South Bank, and The Lamb Tavern at Leadenhall Market.

Your Guide to Hiring BBQ Party Venues in London

Where can you actually have a BBQ in London?

Barbecues are prohibited in all eight Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Greenwich Park and Richmond Park. Rules for council-run parks vary by borough, so check the local restrictions before planning a public-park BBQ.

For a private group event, the main options are:

  • A pub or beer garden. A good choice for casual BBQ parties, particularly when the venue works on a minimum spend.
  • A rooftop terrace or private garden. Better when you want a defined guest list and a dedicated outdoor space.
  • A large open-air venue. Worth considering for bigger celebrations that need more space, catering and event facilities.

Looking for a BBQ restaurant instead? This page focuses on outdoor spaces you can hire for a BBQ party rather than Korean BBQ, yakiniku, churrasco or American-style BBQ restaurants.

How much does it cost to hire a BBQ party venue in London?

BBQ party venues in London cost around £1,500 minimum spend per event on average. The figure moves with capacity, location, outdoor space and whether the venue cooks the BBQ for you.

Which BBQ venue fits your group size?

Group size

What works best

London examples

Up to 30 guests

A private pub garden, covered terrace or smaller outdoor space. These are easier to fill and often have lower minimum spends.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden — covered awning for up to 30, from £300 minimum spend.

30–60 guests

A larger pub garden or private terrace gives you room for food, drinks and mingling without paying for a large event space.

The Hawk’s Nest, Shepherd’s Bush — outdoor terrace for up to 60, from £2,000 minimum spend.

60–100 guests

Look for a dedicated garden, rooftop or larger outdoor area with enough room for both seating and standing.

The Abbey Tavern, Kentish Town — beer garden for up to 80, from £2,500 minimum spend.

100+ guests

Large gardens, rooftops and open-air event venues become more practical. Check catering capacity, wet-weather plans and whether the quoted capacity is seated or standing.

Shoreditch Gardens — up to 500, from £4,000 hire fee.

Prices from live Tagvenue BBQ party venue listings in London.

Minimum spend means there is no separate room-hire fee as long as your group spends the agreed amount on food and drinks. A £1,500 minimum spend for 50 guests works out at £30 per person.

Hire fee pays for the space itself, with catering and drinks usually arranged separately. Per-person packages can make budgeting easier when BBQ food, drinks or other inclusions are bundled into one price.

What does a BBQ menu cost per person in London?

For venue-cooked BBQ packages in London, expect to pay around £30–£120 per person, with an average of roughly £55 per person on current Tagvenue listings.

What you get for that price varies. Some venues include a straightforward BBQ menu, while others offer larger packages with sides, drinks or additional event services. Before comparing prices, check exactly what is included and whether there is a minimum number of guests.

For example:

Brixton Jamm, Brixton Road — BBQ packages from £20 per person
The Refinery CityPoint, Moorgate — BBQ packages from £42 per person
The Sipping Room, Canary Wharf — BBQ packages from £45 per person

For larger groups, compare the total package cost against minimum-spend venues, particularly if your guests are likely to order drinks as well.

What size BBQ venue do you need?

Choose a venue based on your actual guest count and how you plan to use the space. Standing capacity works well for informal BBQ parties where guests will mingle, but check seated capacity too if you want everyone to have a table or seat.

Group size

BBQ venues to consider

Up to 75 guests

Pub gardens, covered terraces, smaller rooftops and private gardens

75–200 guests

Larger beer gardens, rooftop terraces and riverside terraces

200+ guests

Large pub gardens and dedicated open-air event spaces

Leave enough room for the BBQ or catering setup, bar, seating and any entertainment rather than booking purely to the venue’s maximum capacity.

What type of BBQ space should you choose?

Pick the space type by how much control you need over the guest list, the noise and the finish time.

Pub garden: Best for birthdays, family gatherings and casual group celebrations. The bar, seating and service are already in place, and many pub gardens work on a minimum-spend basis.

Rooftop terrace: Best for summer parties, work events and celebrations where the setting matters. Check whether the rooftop is private or shared, whether BBQ catering is available and what wet-weather backup the venue provides.

Private garden: Best for smaller celebrations where privacy is important. Check whether furniture, catering, lighting and covered space are included in the hire.

Large open-air venue: Best for large celebrations, corporate summer parties and events that need room for entertainment or activities. These spaces offer more flexibility, but catering, furniture, staffing and equipment may need to be arranged separately.

Waterside venue: Best for summer events where the location is part of the experience. Look for terraces or outdoor areas with enough room for your group, and check BBQ, music and weather restrictions before booking.

Which London venues have a BBQ on site?

Before you book, check how the BBQ is provided. Most venues fall into one of three categories:

A BBQ facility on site. Choose this option if you want a venue already set up for BBQ cooking. Rooftop at Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch lists BBQ among its facilities, and The Derby Rooftop at King's Cross lists a barbecue. Garden Area at Duke of Edinburgh in Brixton runs a BBQ kitchen alongside two outdoor bars.

A venue-cooked BBQ menu. The venue's kitchen prepares the BBQ rather than providing a grill for guests to use.  The Rooftop Terrace bar at Doggett's Coat and Badge on the South Bank puts a chef on the summer BBQ. Waterside Terrace at Rotunda Bar and Restaurant serves a Garden BBQ set menu on its Regent's Canal terrace.

Outdoor space only. You hire the garden or terrace and arrange catering separately. Check whether external caterers are allowed before booking, as some venues do not permit outside food.

Which areas of London are best for a BBQ party?

  • East London has plenty of choice for outdoor events.  Shoreditch and Bethnal Green cover rooftop bars, Stratford and the Royal Docks cover larger waterside terraces. Good for younger crowds and late finishes.
  • North London is worth considering for canal-side settings, rooftops and pub gardens. King's Cross has both a canal terrace and a rooftop, Camden and Islington add covered pub gardens, and Hampstead offers a walled museum garden.
  • West and South West London has a good selection of pub gardens. Fulham has two large pub gardens on minimum spend, and Wandsworth adds a garden with on-site parking, which matters for a family BBQ carrying kit.
  • Central and Westminster work well when transport connections are a priority. Victoria and St James's give you private garden receptions close to Victoria and Green Park stations, while the South Bank offers Thames views.
  • South London has some of the larger outdoor spaces in the current listings, particularly around Brixton and Vauxhall.

What should you check before booking an outdoor BBQ venue?

Ask these six questions at enquiry stage. They are the ones that most often derail a London BBQ.

  1. What happens if it rains? Check whether there is a covered or heated area or an indoor backup space, rather than assuming the event can simply move inside.
  2. When does the alcohol licence end? Check the venue’s finishing time and whether an extension is available, particularly if you are planning an evening BBQ.
  3. Can you bring your own food or caterer? Some venues allow external catering, while others require you to use their own BBQ menu or in-house catering.
  4. Is the space exclusively yours? A beer garden or terrace may be private, semi-private or shared with other customers, so confirm exactly what your booking includes.
  5. Is there step-free access and enough seating? Check accessibility for your guests and make sure there is sufficient seating and table space for eating.
  6. What are the rules for music outdoors? Check whether DJs, live music or amplified music are permitted and whether outdoor music has an earlier cut-off time.

Can BBQ venues cater for vegetarian, vegan, halal or gluten-free guests?

Yes. Many BBQ venues offer alternatives to traditional meat-based menus. The Chapel Bar's BBQ menu lists a sweet potato and quinoa burger and a vegan sausage alongside the beef and Cumberland options. Rotunda's Garden BBQ set menu includes vegetarian and vegan options as standard. Queen of Hoxton's Barbados Beach BBQ menu offers grilled halloumi against the chicken.

Halal and gluten-free provision is not listed consistently, so confirm it directly with the venue at enquiry and give a headcount. A meat-led menu is the main risk in a mixed group, so agree to the split before the final numbers are confirmed.

Which BBQ venue suits your occasion?

  • Birthday party

A pub garden or private terrace works well for a relaxed birthday, while a rooftop can make the setting feel more celebratory. For larger groups, check whether you can have a private area, music and your own bar.

  • Work summer party

Look for good transport links, flexible catering and enough space for guests to mingle. Rooftops, large terraces and open-air venues can work particularly well for bigger company events.

  • Family gathering

Prioritise seating, accessible facilities and covered space in case the weather changes. A pub garden with food and drinks handled in-house can keep the arrangements simple.

  • Hen or stag party

Look for private or semi-private space, drinks packages and later finishing times. If you're planning music or entertainment, confirm what's allowed before booking.

  • Large celebration

For 100+ guests, consider a large garden or dedicated outdoor event space with room for catering, seating and entertainment. Check the wet-weather plan and any additional staffing or security requirements.

Booked Entire Venue at Hiver Taproom

Couldn't have asked for a better venue! Kat and the team were amazing from the moment we reached out to plan our event; very informative, welcoming and keen to accommodate us. The venue was lovely, spacious with a generous outdoors area allowing people at the event to network and connect with everyone. When the arrived, Kat and the team were happy to rearrange the table layout to ensure all the guests had a chance to mingle and connect, as well as helping us display promotional banners we had provided for the event. The bar was well staffed with quick and easy service throughout the night. The location is brilliant at a 10-15 min walk from London Bridge, no guests had issues getting there or home as it's so well connected with transport and ubers available. We were also lucky enough that the venue is partnered with Yard sale pizza who were able to provide the food for our event, and co-ordinated beautifully with the venue to facilitate our event with minimal involvement from our side - we just got to enjoy our pints and company! Thank you to Kat and the team again for helping us host such a successful event at a very reasonable hiring cost!

Booked Roof Terrace at TT Liquor

We had our summer event (40 people) on the Rooftop Terrace and I can't recommend it enough. We went for the buffet menu and all inclusive drinks package (which was very good value for money). Not only were the staff super friendly and helpful, the venue itself was perfect and the food and drinks were really good value for money. In addition to wines, beers and soft drinks, they also provided 6 cocktails to choose from, which everyone enjoyed.

The BBQ food was amazing, much better than I expected seeing as they had to cater for c.90 people. The drinks kept flowing, we didn't have to ask the staff for refill the buckets with drinks as they were already on top of it. We brought a few games/ entertainment pieces which everyone enjoyed, the team were very accommodating and didn't have any issues with our requests. Great view, would highly recommend.
