London offers plenty of opportunities to kick back and have fun after a long day at work. Bars and pubs are the most obvious spots to go for after-work drinks. They're a classic, and you can't really go wrong with their wide selection of alcohol and delicious snacks. If you're in the mood for partying, nightclubs are the answer, but if you’re feeling the opposite, consider hiring a private room in a restaurant. When the weather is right, you should definitely check out some outdoor spaces, because there’s nothing better than getting some fresh air after a full day in the office!

For those on the lookout for more unique ways of unwinding, we recommend spots that provide not only drinks, but also entertainment: karaoke bars, bowling venues, or games rooms!

We definitely have a few great options for you if you're looking for a space that will fit your entire office! London offers after-work drinks venues of all sizes, so no matter how many people are coming, you should be able to find the perfect fit.

  • The Hideaway at Be At One Liverpool Street - with a private bar and comfortable booths, this modern space offers everything you need for a memorable night out in a great location. It can fit up to 150 guests, which is quite a crowd already!
  • Balls Brothers Austin Friars - another great venue near the Liverpool Street Station. You can hire the entire space, split across three levels! It’s a vast bar that can accommodate up to 180 seated guests or even 350 standing, so everyone should fit easily!
  • Basement Bar at The Oxford Market- a capacity of 150 standing makes this room ideal for large groups that are looking for a private space. The venue's vibrant interior will definitely be a great contrast to the boring white walls and furniture of your office.
  • The Rooftop Terrace bar at Doggett's Coat and Badge - if you’re looking for a space with great drinks and fresh air, this is the right place for you! This venue can accommodate up to 40 people sitting or 220 standing. The surrounding greenery makes for a great escape from London’s hustle and bustle.

Your Guide to Booking After Work Drinks in London

You probably will be one of many with the idea of getting after-work drinks, especially on a Friday in a busy city like London. By hiring a private space in advance, you can avoid having to wait for a table to free up or hopping from bar to bar, hoping to find some space for your group and ruining everyone's mood. This way, you can either choose a quiet function room separate from the bustle of the main bar or an open space to immerse yourself in it!

If you don’t know where to go in London, here are some of our favourite areas for after-work drinks:

  • City of London – The location with the most choices for those who dislike feeling  limited. You can never go wrong with picking an after-work drinks venue in the City of London. It is the most easily accessible district, and a very in-demand location due to the high number of offices, so remember to book in advance!
  • Canary Wharf – Even though Canary Wharf is chiefly known as a business district, there are still many places worth exploring here. It's best suited for live music, craft beer, and experimental cocktail lovers. Canary Wharf has an abundance of bars providing all of these elements in one place.
  • Shoreditch – This offbeat alternative district is perfect for someone trying to wind down after a long, tiring day. In Shoreditch, you can find a bar, a restaurant, and a club all in one place. Fulfil all your wishes with simply one venue without moving from place to place – how convenient is that?
  • Mayfair – This area is well known for its classy wine and beer places offering delicious food along with drinks. Mayfair is also a great place to slip away into another culture by going into themed bars from all around the world.

Booked Orwell Room at The Wheatsheaf
5.0
10/10 Experience! I hired out the function room in The Wheatsheaf Fitzrovia for my 30th birthday and it was just the perfect night. The room had a private bar, the space was open and charming (with lots of seats available at the side). Everyone who came commented on how much they liked the space. The staff were extremely accommodating and very responsive to all my queries. The minimum spend was also very reasonable. The location is also fantastic - so central and such a quick walk from Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line Station. Thank you to everyone at The Wheatsheaf!

Booked The Cocktail Bar Tables at LOCKES Bar Covent Garden
5.0
Communication with the bar was very easy and very responsive. We called and asked many questions and they made the process very clear and simple for us. They were organised and ready to adapt to anything. We asked for catering the day before and it wasn't a problem for them, and the service was great with the pizzas coming out in batches and the bartender working very hard throughout the night. We had a great time with great music, which they tailored to our group once speaking to us, and the location was perfect for our gathering of around 45. Would definitely recommend to anyone else looking to book this venue.

Booked Ground Floor Bar at The Oxford Market
5.0
Held my wife’s 40th birthday party in the ground floor main bar. The venue was just perfect for the occasion and number of guests. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and Sergio did well in managing the event for me. Nothing was too much for them. The canapés were brilliant and a lot of people commented on how good the food tasted. Booking this venue with Thea beforehand was so easy, so a lot of credit goes to her too. I would not hesitate in booking this venue again in the near future.

Booked Zombie Entire Venue at Zombie Games Café & Bar
5.0
The venue is so unique and right up our alley. We received so many compliments from our guests who said the venue was so fun and different. There was a huge variety of old school games to play, which people played throughout the evening. But most importantly the staff are the loveliest, most accommodating bunch of people. Paddy was so easy to work with and flexible too. His communication was amazing, which is key when planning an event. He was also so kind and asked if there were specific drinks we wanted stocked behind the bar. Additionally the food was so yummy, a lot of our guests came from work so had some dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our DJ had a great time too and found it super easy to connect to the sound system. Honestly overall it was one of the most amazing nights, and we’d highly recommend the Zombie cafe and bar!

Booked The Mezzanine at Vagabond Monument
4.3
Venue is a great location. The mezzanine is a nice space and while above the rest of the bar still has the bar vibes. Dealing with Jess via TagVenue was lovely and she was really helpful. I like the concept of Vagabonds, people are able to get what they want, and at the costs they want which is great and they do have beers (sadly the beer vending didn't seem to be working). There was a lovely member of staff, I didn't catch her name, from America who talked me through a bunch of the wines and gave some really great advice! Brought our own decorations (don't forget tape) and they stored our cake which was great (it was a hot evening).

Booked Basement Bar at The Oxford Market
5.0
I had my 30th Birthday Party in the Basement Bar and it was absolutely amazing. The space was fabulous, accommodated my 100 guests really well. Great dancefloor space, great seating areas, great size dj booth, fabulous bar space with lovely bartenders. The events manager, Craig was absolutely wonderful. He went above and beyond to make my day special. The manager on the night, Max was also super lovely. He took care of absolutely everything and was really flexible when I was running late. The Canapés were also really delicious and cocktails were 10/10. Everything was amazing! Couldn't have picked a better venue for my party!

Booked Mala Madre Events Space at The Last Talisman
4.8
The Last Talisman hosted my 30th birthday party. We were around 60 people and the venue was perfect for all of our needs. The staff were really attentive and professional. They were always on hand for any queries we had. The bar tender was fantastic and made the whole evening so much fun. Our DJ Finn was also brilliant and created the perfect atmosphere. The food was delicious and all the guests raved about it. I could not recommend this place more! If you want space for mingling, dancing, cocktails.. then this is your place!

Booked The Rooftop Terrace bar at Doggett's Coat and Badge
5.0
Great location for my daughter’s 18th birthday party, with superbly situated outside terrace with seating overlooking the Thames, and views to St Paul’s. The function space is completely separate from the rest of the pub, with a good-sized indoor space with full bar and space for dancing. The venue has a decent music system and allows hirers to play their own music, via smartphone. Staff were friendly and efficient, but also no nonsense in managing teenage partygoers. IDs were checked thoroughly and there was zero tolerance of underage drinking. We didn’t order food for the party, but BBQ set up on the terrace looks like it could have been a decent option. Most importantly, my daughter and the 60 or so attendees loved the space.
