FAQs about Top Galleries in London

The hire fee is the most frequent form of payment for hiring a gallery, a pop-up venue, or a studio for art exhibitions and other events. These costs may vary depending on the size, popularity and location of your venue. Hiring expenses for such events are typically calculated on a per-day, per-session, or per-hour basis. The fees per hour range from approximately £60 to £400 or more, while the daily rates range from £250 to £7000 or higher. Fees per session are normally around £600, but can go significantly higher depending on various factors. (All data from Tagvenue.)

The best neighbourhoods for hiring a gallery in London include Mayfair, famous for its upscale art spaces and proximity to major art institutions; Chelsea, offering a mix of contemporary and traditional galleries amidst its affluent setting; Shoreditch is also known for its vibrant street art and modern galleries catering to a more avant-garde audience; and South Bank, where galleries benefit from riverside views and a culturally rich environment near landmarks like Tate Modern. Each area offers unique advantages: Mayfair and Chelsea attract a high-end demographic, which is ideal for exclusive exhibitions and events, while Shoreditch and South Bank appeal to a younger, more diverse crowd, which is perfect for contemporary and experimental art shows.

Your Guide to Hiring Galleries in London

Home to such institutions as Tate Modern and the National Portrait Gallery, London is famous for its eclectic art scene. However, there’s more to London art than just well-known gallery spaces. The uniqueness of its art scene also comes from smaller, alternative art galleries, which create trends that hugely influence the international art community. All that buzz happens mostly in west London, on the vibrant streets of Soho, in hipster Shoreditch spaces and in alternative Brick Lane areas.

With that being said, your gallery venue hire options are wider than just one district. Many art events take place in picturesque Notting Hill or even further from the centre, such as in Hackney. A perfect example is the Dulwich Picture Gallery, which is located on the South Bank of the Thames.

Have a look at our gallery venues – we’re sure you’ll find something that will catch your eye.

What Kinds Of Events Can You Hold At A Gallery Venue?

  • Art exhibitions - This one seems obvious, but it offers many creative opportunities. Hiring a blank canvas space makes organising an event similar to creating a work of art. The colour palette, style and layout are entirely up to you. When it comes to art exhibitions, finding the right gallery to hire is crucial. It’s even nicer when the neighbourhood suits the mood of your show. There are a lot of art exhibition venues in the alternative districts of London that are just perfect for contemporary art exhibitions.
  • Private parties - Very often art galleries are used for corporate drinks and receptions. These spaces give you a lot of artistic freedom. Why not stand out from the crowd and organise a wedding in a gallery? One perfect venue for such events is the Saatchi Gallery. It has a lot of available rooms that can also be hired for product launches, conferences and many other purposes.
  • Book launch - Gallery spaces are an excellent option for launching your latest creative work. A bookstore seems an obvious choice for such an event, but sometimes it’s worth thinking outside the box. For example, if your book is about East Africa, how about collaborating with a photographer who’s been shooting landscapes in Kenya and Tanzania? You can combine your book launch with their photography exhibition in order to generate more buzz around your event. Hosting your book launch in a gallery, like The Mosaic Rooms, will make even more sense if your book is art-related. Maybe you’ll even be able to have some of the artists’ works exhibited in the same room? In London everything’s possible!
  • Pop-up events - Over the past few years, pop-up events have been taking London by storm. The variety of pop-up festivals, stores, bars and restaurants is so huge that it’s nearly impossible to list them all. An art gallery might be just right for your planned pop-up exhibition.

This venue is superb. Monika is so quick and responsive, kind, and professional. It was bright, white, clean, immaculate. Close to all trains and busses/public transport and hotels. We had the most fabulous experience and I can NOT recommend it highly enough. I absolutely had the most wonderful experience because of Monika and this gorgeous venue. She promoted our event on her website, was communicative, and totally professional and helpful in every way. I can't find a single fault. Monika is a gem. What a lovely space.

Booked Private Floor at My Buzzspace
5.0
The space worked perfectly for the art exhibition we wanted to put on as it had so many different sections that worked for everyone's different practices. We were able to show film work on the tv, and sound work through the sound systems all over the space. We were also able to move the furniture around for it to suit what we wanted. It was just all round perfect, no complaints whatsoever.

The venue were so helpful leading up to the event as well as on the day. They were really accommodating and hung our work so expertly. We felt in a very safe pair of hands. The gallery looked beautiful and we were so proud to display our work. The guests all commented on how wonderful the gallery looked. The venue suggested the printers and caterers, both did a wonderful job and the canapes were delicious. The serving staff were lovely and efficient. All in all an excellent space!

Thomas was amazingly helpful, he stayed with us the whole day helping us set everything up and giving advice too. He let us use high-quality audio and video equipment and helped us install it too. The venue is tidy and clean, in a great location and big enough for the event I put together, Thomas is trustworthy and available. I would definitely consider the venue again!

I had a really great experience renting Hoxton 253 for a day. Mirko was great at clarifying any questions I had and on the day everything went smoothly.
