Washhouse Court at The Charterhouse
About this space
Enter the historical tapestry of Washhouse Court, a captivating enclave that whispers of centuries past. As one of the earliest parts of the Charterhouse, this area was once a bustling hub that catered to the needs of the monastery and, later, the Tudor mansion.
Original cobblestones pave the way through this extraordinary courtyard, where ancient buildings stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. Half of these structures are crafted from monastic stone, while the other half showcases the distinctive red and black Tudor brick. This combination creates a visually captivating experience that transports you back several centuries.
Washhouse Court is not just a courtyard; it is a living testament to the rich history of Charterhouse. The ambience is exceptionally lovely, offering a unique blend of architectural marvels and historical charm. The courtyard invites you to explore its nooks and crannies, capturing the essence of a bygone era.
