About this space

The Great Chamber is a testament to Tudor and Jacobean history, and the last surviving Tudor Great Chamber in London. This exquisite space holds the echoes of moments when a young Elizabeth I prepared for her coronation and James I knighted his favoured noblemen.

Step into a realm of historical significance and architectural splendour. The Great Chamber boasts a stunning Tudor ceiling that stretches overhead, a masterpiece that has witnessed centuries of events. The room features an impressive Jacobean fireplace, which serves as a focal point, radiating both warmth and grandeur. The space exudes elegance and sophistication, providing the perfect backdrop for dinners, concerts, or presentations.

Every detail in The Great Chamber tells a story of the past. The wood panelling in the far alcove, though new, meticulously evokes the room's original Tudor appearance. The Duke of Norfolk's plasterwork ceiling, with the least alteration, stands as a symbol of the room's historical integrity. The painted fireplace, restored to its 17th-century appearance, adds a touch of authenticity to the ambience. The walls, now lined with green moiré silk, create a harmonious backdrop for the recently restored paintings that enhance the space.

The Great Chamber is a grand and beautifully appointed space that can accommodate up to 180 guests.
