About this space

The Foundling Museum is a museum that preserves the story of Britain’s first children’s charity and first public art gallery, combining social‑history artefacts with a historic fine‑art collection.

Design: Interiors combine period domestic fittings and framed portraiture with contained gallery displays; low ceilings, muted colours and focused lighting create intimate rooms for close viewing of objects and paintings.

Features: The museum provides venue Wi‑Fi and a PA system, and permits own music or bringing an external DJ. The building includes a step‑free guest entrance, a lift between floors and accessible toilets. Front‑of‑house staff and volunteer hosts supply onsite event support.

Ideal for: Cultural and professional groups seeking an intimate, seated presentation or a quiet, formal reception in a museum setting.

What sets it apart: A unique collection of tokens left by mothers to their children provides direct, personal links to the Foundling Hospital's history.

What guests say: The galleries are calm and thought‑provoking, presenting social‑history objects alongside art and musical material. The exhibitions deliver detailed, informative displays about the Foundling Hospital's history.
