About this space
A black box theatre space for rehearsals, performances, dance, workshops, recordings, and creative events. The venue features a fitted dance floor and flexible audience seating for up to 100 guests, with end-on aluminium decking seating banks.
The space is fully equipped with professional technical facilities, including an ETC Nomad lighting system, a full working rig with 8 TMH movers, lanterns, and dimmers, as well as XLR and DMX patch points throughout. Sound facilities include a PA system, sound desk, an ART 310 Mk3 passive speaker (10”, 300W), microphones with stands, music stands, and WiFi/internet access.
For multimedia and presentation needs, the venue includes an iMac equipped with QLab 4.7 and an Epson EB-G7905U 3LCD projector. Additional equipment includes a baby grand piano, smoke/haze machine, and full technical support infrastructure.
Artists and production teams benefit from two company dressing rooms, each with a built-in bathroom, costume rails, washing machine, dryer, and iron.
Technical support is included during weekly performance hires. During rehearsal periods, support is not included, though an in-house technician is present for get-in and venue induction. If companies bring their own technician, in-house support is provided during get-in only. All schedules for get-in, technical rehearsals, performances, and get-out are agreed in advance.

Prices
Day Hire: £250 + VAT per day
Weekly Hire (6-day performance week 10am-10pm): £3,500 + VAT (Includes in-house technical support, administration cost and Box Office Split)
Rehearsal Rate: £650 + VAT per week (Mon–Fri) (Weekend rehearsals available at additional cost)
Overtime: £50 + VAT per hour
Get-in / Get-out: Quoted on enquiry (based on production scale and run length)
Box Office Split / Commission: Quoted on enquiry

To ensure the safe and smooth running of all rehearsals, performances, and events, please review the following house rules before booking.
No smoking, naked flames, candles, pyrotechnics, confetti cannons, smoke effects, or any flammable items are permitted without prior written approval from The Playground Theatre.
The seating banks, lighting rig, fixtures, cables, and installed technical equipment are fixed and must not be moved, adjusted, or altered without permission from the Technical Manager. No changes may be made to the fabric of the building, including walls, floors, fittings, or installed equipment.
All electrical equipment brought into the venue must be safe, suitable for use, and PAT tested where required. Any scenic materials, props, costumes, or set pieces must comply with current fire safety regulations and be flame-retardant where appropriate.
Hirers are fully responsible for any damage caused to the building, furniture, fixtures, or equipment by cast, crew, contractors, or guests. Any external equipment brought into the space remains the hirer’s responsibility, including repair or replacement if it fails.
Food and drink may only be consumed in agreed areas such as dressing rooms or backstage spaces. All open food and drink must be removed at the end of each working day. The café and backstage office/greenroom are active working areas and must be respected as such.
Access times for get-in, rehearsals, performances, and get-out must be agreed in advance. Additional access time may incur extra charges. The venue is not always an exclusive hire, and management reserves the right to access the space in emergencies or for operational reasons.
Dressing rooms and theatre spaces must be left clean and fully vacated by the agreed time each day. All personal items, costumes, and equipment must be removed at the end of the hire period.
Parking is limited and must be arranged in advance.
Cancellation policy: Standard 30 day with Grace Period
