The Hereford Arms has been pouring pints since Victorian times, with a history as colourful as a drunk’s storytelling. Rumour has it “Jack the Ripper” drank here, though - surprise - no one’s been able to confirm it (mystery unsolved, pint unfinished).
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a regular, naming his most famous detective after a nearby block of flats - proof that great literature can be inspired by, well, property management. During WWI, American servicemen turned Hereford Square into a baseball diamond, because nothing says “international alliance” like hitting things with sticks between rounds at the pub.
