HI New York City Ballroom at HI New York City
About this space
Inside one of the last remaining buildings in the city designed by Richard Morris Hunt (aka “the Architect of the Gilded Age”), the space provides an elegant setting for ceremonies, meetings, and celebrations of all types. With large windows letting in plenty of natural light, and classic interior touches like arches and columns, we offer a warm and inviting alternative to generic corporate venues.
Our staff can set up this versatile space “classroom” or “theater” style with a stage and large projector, and seating for up to 110 people. Or, choose a party-ready set up with high cocktail tables, a dance floor, and optional sound system to entertain up to 163 attendees. Whatever your event calls for, this flexible and historic space is sure to charm your guests.
When renting the Ball Room, ask us about adding on outdoor space, too: our 5600-square-foot ground-level patio and garden comprises one of the largest private green spaces in Manhattan, giving you the rare opportunity to host an indoor-outdoor event in Manhattan.
The Ball Room is located inside HI New York City hostel, a Richard Morris Hunt-designed red brick building that’s often described as “castle-like.” Sitting at 103rd St. and Amsterdam Ave., the location offers easy access to 1/2/3 and A/B/C subway lines. The hostel is run by Hostelling International USA (HI USA), a nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting peace through travel. By booking your event with us, you support our travel scholarships, cultural exchanges, and other educational programming. While entrance to the Ball Room is through the hostel lobby, your guests enjoy exclusive access to the Ball Room and its dedicated private restroom.
