About this space

Evans & Peel Detective Agency is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that recreates a 1920s detective office. The venue's defining quality is its immersive period theming.

Design: The interior reproduces 1920s decor through dark wood panelling, brass fittings and vintage glassware under low, warm lighting. The layout includes a compact ground-floor bar and a lower lounge organised for close, seated conversation against a backdrop of jazz.

Features: The venue operates as a fully equipped cocktail bar staffed by trained mixologists and a themed cocktail menu that includes bespoke, made-to-order drinks. The venue runs live music on selected nights and maintains a small kitchen serving American-style bar food; technical facilities include PA/speakers, Wi‑Fi and air conditioning. The venue permits guests to play their own music or to bring a DJ for private bookings.

Ideal for: The venue is best suited to small, sociable evening groups seeking an informal, theatrical setting centred on cocktails and conversation.

What sets it apart: A theatrical entry sequence requires visitors to ring a nondescript doorbell, present a ‘case’ and pass through a concealed bookcase to reach the hidden bar.

What guests say: The cocktail menu is consistently regarded as original and high quality. The venue's period theming and jazz programme create a lively atmosphere, though service speed can be uneven on busy nights.
