About this space

Central Otago is a semi-private area in a bar at Vagabond Paddington defined by bright, canal-facing seating and a casual high-table layout.

Design: The interior pairs deep-painted panelling and an exposed industrial ceiling with warm textiles and planted shelving. Lighting is provided by pendant lamps and wall sconces, and patterned rugs add small-scale colour.

Features: The area is furnished with high tables, stools and a long bench suitable for dining or informal standing layouts. The area provides Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, wheelchair access and power outlets for AV or device charging. Tableware and simple place settings are available for sit-down service.

Ideal for: Small groups seeking a relaxed, social setting for seated meals or informal standing drinks.

What sets it apart: An on-site self-pour craft beer wall allows guests to sample a variety of beers at their own pace.

What guests say: The space has a lively, cheerful atmosphere and attentive, knowledgeable staff.

Christmas Party · 40 guests · December 2024

Food was great, and the drinks, and the hospitality and staff service was great and very attentive.

Not sure if anyone could provide clarity on this, but we were told by the FOH manager (who was lovely and really helpful) that due to the reduced number of guests we had from 40 to 25, the space we had reserved was still open to the public. Was explained the reason for this on the night but didn't get any note about this from the venue booking team and it seemed a tad confusing as we had paid the full amount and had booked the space. In the end the people there weren't a distraction and it was fine but just would be good to get heads up about it for next time as would like to book again for future events.
