The Blackout Studio at STU 22

About this space

The Blackout Studio at STU 22 is a fully light-sealed matte black studio in Wapping, East London, five minutes' walk from Wapping Overground. 26ft by 19ft with 12ft ceilings. From 110 GBP per hour, one-hour minimum.

Total lighting control. Every surface is matte black and the room is sealed against daylight, so nothing bounces and nothing leaks. What you light is what you get, at any hour of the day.

Booked for music videos, cinematic and narrative production, moody portraiture and fashion, product and still-life work, dark-mode e-commerce, livestreams, interviews and dramatic content shoots.

Included in every booking: power, cleaning, studio operations, basic lighting and grip, backdrops, a PA and speaker system, a changing and prep area, and a kitchen with complimentary tea and coffee. No facility fees. Full equipment upgrade available at 200 GBP per booking day.

Half day 400 GBP. Full day 800 GBP.

Pair it with the Infinity Cove next door, an all-white cyclorama at 120 GBP per hour, and shoot the light and the dark set-ups on the same day. The Portal in the same building holds our DJ studio at 35 GBP per hour and our Focusrite music production and recording studio at 50 GBP per hour, or both rooms together for 70 GBP per hour, so the track and the video can be made under one roof.

Open 08:00 to 22:00 seven days a week. The studio is on the first floor, free on-site parking is included, Wapping Overground is five minutes away, Shadwell DLR seven, Shoreditch and Canary Wharf ten. Rated 5.0 out of 5 from more than 67 Google reviews. All rates exclude VAT at 20 percent.
