Your Guide to Hiring Christmas Party Venues in Manchester

Which type of Christmas party venue should you book in Manchester?

Choose the venue type by how your group wants to celebrate. Pubs and bars suit relaxed, drinks-led nights; restaurants and private dining rooms suit Christmas lunches and dinners; rooftops and historic halls make a statement; and blank-canvas warehouses suit large, themed corporate parties.

Pubs and bars for a work Christmas party

Pubs and bars are best for casual work parties and nights out with friends. Traditional pubs bring warmth, real ales and a cosy festive feel for smaller groups; cocktail and party bars suit drinks-led nights with music and room to mingle. Check the drinks packages, whether the space is private, the music or DJ setup and the late licence.

Picks: the historic Old Wellington (private space for 50, from £400 minimum spend); The Fitzgerald in the Northern Quarter (120 guests, from £1,500 minimum spend); Manahatta Deansgate (130 guests, festive feast from £26.95pp); and Dirty Martini (150 guests).

Christmas dinner or lunch

Restaurants and private dining rooms are best for Christmas lunch, family gatherings and formal team dinners. Manchester has a strong food scene, so you can match cuisine and setting to the occasion, from traditional British menus to premium pan-Asian dining. Check the festive set menu, dietary options and whether the room is fully private.

Picks: TATTU (The Parlour, 40–50, from £55pp, premium); Gusto Italian (Semi-Private Mezzanine, 80, from £2,000 minimum spend); Banyan Corn Exchange (The Root, 30–60, from £38.95pp); and Nell’s at Kampus (The Snug, 40–60, from £22pp).

Rooftop bars for a party with a view

Rooftop bars are best for cocktail receptions and statement celebrations where city views are part of the experience. Manchester’s December weather makes covered or heated spaces the safer choice, so confirm the indoor backup.

Picks: Cloud 23 at the Beetham Tower (Iris Lounge, 150, canapés from £20pp) and King Street Townhouse (South Terrace & Lounge, 80–130).

Historic halls, hotels and blank-canvas warehouses

Historic halls and hotels are best for large, formal corporate celebrations; blank-canvas warehouses are best for large themed parties and custom production.

Picks: Manchester Art Gallery (The Atrium, 200, from £110pp); The Edwardian Manchester (Halle Suite, up to 420, from £80pp); and Victoria Warehouse (The Bays, 300, from £1,500 minimum spend, full AV).

Which Manchester areas are best for a Christmas party?

Manchester city centre (Deansgate, Spinningfields and Piccadilly) is the best all-round choice for work parties; the Northern Quarter suits quirky and alternative celebrations; Castlefield offers canal-side venues; and Old Trafford, Trafford Park and wider Trafford suit larger events and groups travelling by car.

All central areas are within walking distance of Manchester’s Christmas Markets and both Piccadilly and Victoria stations, with Metrolink throughout.

  • Manchester city centre (Deansgate & Spinningfields) – best for work parties and guests arriving from across Greater Manchester. The widest mix of rooftops, private dining rooms, hotel ballrooms and bars, beside the Albert Square and Piccadilly Gardens Christmas Markets and minutes from both stations. Top pick: Cloud 23 at the Beetham Tower, a 23rd-floor rooftop with skyline views (150 guests, canapés from £20pp) – a Manchester landmark in its own right.

  • Northern Quarter – best for alternative, creative and friend-group parties. Independent bars, speakeasies and character venues for a distinctive vibe, a short walk from Piccadilly and the Ancoats bars. Top pick: The Fitzgerald, a glamorous 1920s-style bar for exclusive hire (120 guests, from £1,500 minimum spend).

  • Castlefield – best for characterful, canal-side celebrations with heritage. Roman-history streets and the canal basin give this conservation area a distinctive backdrop for parties and dinners. Top pick: Manchester235, a casino-and-entertainment complex with a 3-course dinner, arrival bubbles, live entertainment and a DJ (150 guests, from £55pp).

  • Chinatown – best for grand, central celebrations by the markets. Steps from Mosley Street and the Christmas Markets, with landmark cultural venues for a formal event. Top pick: Manchester Art Gallery (The Atrium), a historic gallery setting for up to 200 guests, from £110pp.

  • Old Trafford – best for sports-fan parties and larger events by the stadium. Minutes from the iconic football and cricket grounds, with hotels, warehouses and supporters’ clubs geared to big groups. Top pick: Hotel Football – Stadium Suite, overlooking the pitch (320 guests, from £2,000 minimum spend).

  • Trafford Park – best for big blank-canvas warehouse and themed parties. Large industrial event spaces near the Trafford Centre, easiest to reach by car or tram, ideal for high-capacity production-led nights. Top pick: Victoria Warehouse – The Bays, a 300-guest warehouse space with a full AV package.

  • Trafford (Altrincham, Sale & Stretford) – best for suburban, budget-friendly and family parties with parking. Function rooms in Altrincham and pubs around Sale and Stretford, near Altrincham Market and well served by Metrolink. Top pick: Nell’s Altrincham (Entire Venue), a great-value party space with a DJ booth and disco ball (up to 200 guests, from £20pp).

How do you organise a festive party in Manchester?

Book early, compare packages, and confirm capacity, transport and the festive menu before paying a deposit. Allow three months for a small party and up to six for a large one.

  • Book early – the best venues and peak December Saturdays sell out first; keep a few possible dates.
  • Compare packages – festive packages bundle food, drink and sometimes décor, entertainment and an event manager, and often beat booking à la carte.
  • Plan the music – upbeat pop for office parties, softer festive jazz for fine dining; a DJ suits larger nights.
  • Check the location – choose somewhere near a station or with parking so guests can get home easily.
  • Confirm the details – capacity (seated vs standing), what the minimum spend or package covers, accessibility, and the deposit and cancellation terms.

Booked The Clubhouse at Roxy Ball Room - Deansgate, Manchester
4.4
Good private room and was easy to organise, always got a quick response from the venue which was great. Was able to add on welcome drinks closer to the event date which really was appreciated. Space was perfect for us, the activities suited everyone and plenty of space and seating for people to also just chat too.

Things we LOVED: Millie was the primary point of contact as we organised our work's Christmas party. She was approachable and available when we had questions and was super accommodating when we requested additional drinks items that were not necessarily included in the package (we asked for a vat of mulled wine). On the night, we were checked off a list as we entered (to ensure it was a private party). Whilst we did have a drinks packages in place, we also took advantage of bar too - and the bar tender (Brad) was great, happy to create cocktails for colleagues (according to their instructions). Music volume was perfect: loud enough to create atmosphere, but quiet enough to have a conversation without having to shout. The food in general tasted nice (see comments on 'dislikes', although not really dislikes - more 'not loved'. However the puddings were something else - in particular the strudel, which went down a treat with colleagues, some of whom were packing in as many as they possible could.
