Your Guide to Hiring 30th Birthday Party Venues in London

Which types of venues work best for a 30th birthday in London?

The five venue types Clients book most often for a 30th in London, with live pricing and typical group sizes:

Venue type

Average price

Typical capacity

50 – 100 guests

Mixed groups who want a bar and a dancefloor

Lounge

£500 minimum spend

50 – 80 guests

Seated-and-standing mix, conversation over dancing

Pub

£400 minimum spend

60 – 80 guests

Casual parties, family-friendly earlier hours, tight budgets

Function room

£500 minimum spend

50 – 80 guests

Full privacy, your own decor, your own playlist

Cocktail bars and private bars – for a drinks-led 30th

Private bars in London average £800 minimum spend (£500 to £1,500), and cocktail bars average £600 (£500 to £1,500). What you are paying for is a dedicated bar, a bartender who stays with your group, and a door your guests do not share with the public.

Look for: your own bar and toilets, a sound system you can plug into, and a late licence.

  • The Boudoir Bar at Bar Soho – 100 standing, from £250 minimum spend per session. Laid out like a Parisian apartment with its own bar, toilets and entrance. Alcohol licence until 3am.
  • The Speakeasy at MNM, City of London – 60 standing, from £500 minimum spend. A 1920s speakeasy in a barber shop basement, with an aux cable for your own playlist. Licence until 1am. One Client described it as a hidden gem that comfortably held 40 to 45 people.
  • The Green Room at Casa do Frango Mayfair – 100 standing, from £1,250 minimum spend per afternoon. Velvet seating and hidden corners just off Regent Street. Licence until 1am.

Pubs and function rooms – the affordable option

Pub venues in London average £500 minimum spend, and small pub rooms up to 60 guests average £300. In South London the pub average drops to £300 minimum spend for 60 to 100 guests, which makes it the cheapest way to get a genuinely private room in the city.

Look for: no hire fee, your own music, and whether the room is private or semi-private.

Rooftops and terraces – views, privacy and timing

Rooftop venues in London average £3,000 minimum spend, and rooftop bars average £2,500 (£1,650 to £5,000, or £50 to £100 per person). Terraces are the cheaper route in at an average of £1,500. Small rooftops up to 60 guests average £2,000; over 130 guests the average climbs to £10,000.

Four things decide whether a rooftop works for a 30th:

  1. The view. A skyline backdrop is the reason to book one. Panoramic City views cost more than a courtyard outlook.
  2. Privacy level. Some rooftops are exclusive-hire only, others are semi-private with public drinkers alongside you.
  3. Weather cover. Ask whether the terrace is heated, covered or partly covered. This is the single most common reason a summer 30th goes wrong.
  4. Time of day. Book late afternoon into evening if you want golden hour and sunset; book from 8pm if you want the lit-up skyline. Terrace licences often end earlier than the indoor bar below.
  • The Rooftop Terrace Bar at Doggett's Coat and Badge, South Bank – 120 standing, from £1,000 minimum spend per session. Panoramic views of St Paul's, the City, the Thames and the Shard, with an indoor bar so it works year-round. Booked for private events only, so the whole space is yours. Summer BBQs available.
  • Roof Top Garden at Bow Street Tavern, Covent Garden – 30 standing, from £1,500 minimum spend per session. Festoon lights, soft seating and views of the Royal Opera House. Heated and partially coverable, with a hub for your own music.
  • Roof Terrace at The Solo Kitchen & Bar, Bethnal Green – 100 standing, 70 seated, from £500 minimum spend per afternoon. Heated and fully covered in winter, with city views and its own bar. The most affordable rooftop of this size on the list.
  • Terrace at TOLA, Peckham – 250 standing, from £400 hire fee per day. South-facing with rain cover, heaters and a full cocktail bar. Terrace open until midnight; the venue licence runs to 4am.

Restaurants and private dining – for a dinner-first 30th

Private dining rooms in London average £1,000 minimum spend (£550 to £1,500). Rooms for up to 20 guests average £750; 25 to 40 guests averages £1,000; over 40 averages £1,500.

Book this format if the milestone matters more than the dancefloor, if you are hosting family alongside friends, or if you want a set menu and a seating plan rather than a bar tab.

Ask about: set menu options and price per head, dietary requirements, whether external catering is allowed, and how long the table is yours for.

Late-licence bars and clubs – for dancing past midnight

Nightclub venues in London average £2,500 minimum spend (£1,000 to £5,000), which is a lot for a 30th. Most Clients get a better result from a bar with a late alcohol licence and a DJ setup, for a fraction of the spend.

Check the alcohol licence time on the venue page before anything else. It is the number that decides when your party ends.

Blank-canvas and dry-hire spaces – for full control

If you want to bring your own DJ, decor, caterer or drinks, look for spaces charging a hire fee rather than a minimum spend. Warehouse venues average £4,800 hire fee per day, but smaller studio and event spaces start far lower – Brixton event spaces average around £105 hire fee per hour.

The trade-off is real: dry hire gives you control but you become the caterer, the bar and the clean-up crew. A minimum spend venue does all three for you.

Games, karaoke and activity venues – for a 30th that is not just drinks

Karaoke bars in London average £780 minimum spend (£400 to £1,500). Activity-led rooms are the strongest answer to the "unique 30th birthday party venues London" search, because they give guests something to do beyond stand and drink.

  • The Games Room at Heist Bank, Paddington – 50 standing, from £550 minimum spend per session or £120 hire fee. Built-in projector, web karaoke, a Nintendo 64 and a football table outside the room. One event planner  called it the perfect venue for a surprise 30th.
  • Beer Pong at SAMA Bankside, South Bank – 50 standing, 25 seated, from £500 minimum spend per day. A railway arch with beer pong at £35 per game and a DJ from 9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Licence until 1am.
  • Games Room at The Cocktail Club Old Street, Shoreditch – 60 standing, from £500 minimum spend per session. Photobooth, beer pong table and pool table. Licence until 3am.
  • The Upside Down at Zombie Games Café & Bar – 60 standing. Neon-lit space with a dancefloor, DJ booth, and a collection of video and board games. Licence until 2am.

Party boats – for a Thames 30th

Party boats in London average £3,000 hire fee per day (£1,150 to £7,000 per day, or £120 to £695 per hour). Small boats up to 25 guests average £645 hire fee per hour; boats for 60 to 150 guests average £1,200 minimum spend.

Book this if the venue itself is the entertainment. Confirm the boarding point, the exact cruise duration, and what happens to guests who arrive late – a boat does not wait.

Booked Pub/Bar Area at Lord Morpeth
5.0
I had my 30th birthday party at the Lord Morpeth this past weekend and it was absolutely perfect! The team made private hire of the venue so easy, with a really reasonable deposit and minimum spend compared to other venues I looked at. I put my deposit towards pre-ordering pizzas for my guests which went down a treat. Playing my own music and bringing my own decorations, lights and cake was no problem, and the best part was the bartenders Eavan and Eleanor who went above and beyond to make the evening special for me, my friends and my family. They were so fun and so kind; even went to the shop to buy some cans of Neck Oil for my dad when there were no pale ales left on tap! I couldn't fault the experience and I will have such special memories of my 30th thanks to their hospitality. The perfect place for casual pub vibes that feel a little bit special, with a chance to boogie as well! Thank you so much!!!

Booked Qube East Bar and Lounge at Qube East - Cocktail Bar & Recording Studios

I hosted my 30th birthday party here with around 80-90 in attendance and it was the perfect venue!!! I engaged with Toni throughout my planning process and he was attentive, responsive and very accommodating! The staff on the bar on the day were just as amazing and I was even told personally by my friends after that they were also accommodating for example when a drink needed adjusting in flavour etc. I couldn’t have chosen a better venue, all my family and friends loved it. The vibe and ambience is cosy enough for it to have a party feel and sophisticated enough with the bar and design to make it feel mature. The customisable bar menu was also memorable. Perfect for a 30th, I wish I was turning 30 again to come back and host here 😂 the venue is also very close to Canada Square parking so perfect for those wanting to arrive my car. Amazing!

(30th birthday party, around 75 guests) Venue is fantastic, great decor and vibe. The staff were absolutely amazing, so responsive over email, had really good advice, and on the night, were super helpful and went out of their way to help us set up decorations and set out stuff even whilst they had two other events on. Food was amazing and they catered so well to a lot of food allergies. Bartenders were brilliant. Venue is accessible (lift and accessible toilet). All round great evening, everyone was impressed with the venue and staff and I’d recommend.

Booked The Speakeasy at MNM

This is something of a hidden gem - I held my 30th birthday party here and I’m absolutely elated with how everything went. The venue itself can comfortably hold 40 - 45 people without issue. It’s a clean space with a lovely atmosphere - the prohibition era vibes really work for the space and I highly recommend adding Steely Dan to your playlist to add further to the classiness of it all. Deiby and Jorge are a lovely couple of characters - they were kind to my guests and really supportive of the experience throughout. Most importantly, prior to the party they were patient with me in dealing with the complexities of planning a larger event like this, and went out of their way to support on menu adjustments to support dietary requirements of some guests. And said menu adjustments still tasted great! A big thank you to Deiby, Jorge and all others involved for really making a special event even more special 🫡

Booked Semi-private hire at The 1 Bar

If you are looking for a venue to celebrate a special occasion, this is the venue you need! I celebrated my 30th birthday at the 1 Bar and everything exceeded my expectations. Not only is the bar aesthetically pleasing, but the staff there are lovely and go over and beyond to meet your expectations. I was quite particular with what I wanted for my birthday celebration and Alicia ensured everything was in place to meet my vision, and this was delivered. I am still getting questions about the venue till date for those looking to celebrate. I was able to bring my own decoration and food and Alicia and Dimi made this such an easy process for me, considering this was an issue with other venues. Not only are the staff here very friendly, but they do everything to make sure your birthday party is a successful one. Big thank you to Alicia and Dimi for their professional expertise in event planning which contributed to a successful 30th birthday party, would highly recommend!

Booked Function Room at Islington Events Space | Public Space
4.2
I hosted my 30th birthday party for ~60 people at the Islington Function room and had a brilliant night! Susan, who I initially made the booking with, was a swift and detailed communicator. Once the booking was confirmed, she put me in touch with Sara, the event coordinator, who was there on the night of the party and helped me make all food and drink arrangements beforehand. Sara was incredible at the event! She worked tirelessly to ensure that things ran smoothly; from helping to set up the bar, and music system, to serving food from a pre-ordered menu, and all with a smile on her face. Luke, the CEO also offered a helping hand on the night! The whole team were very attentive, warm and friendly. The venue was already stunning, but it was extra special was to be able to decorate the room as I wished, and hire a DJ of my choice. I would absolutely recommend this venue.

Booked The Green Room & Terrace at Colours Hoxton

I did my 30th birthday party with a bit over 50 people in the Colours Green Room and it could have not been better, we had an amazing night ! Communication with the venue ahead of the event was very smooth and they were very flexible and nice to accomodate the plan I had for the evening. On the night itself the venue manager and staff took care of everything, I didn't have to worry about a thing - from door security to the bar, to the technical setup for the DJ and to catering. Can highly recommend it for your party ! Thank you to the whole Colours team for making my birthday so special !

Booked Basement at The Cutting Room

I actually had the ground floor to host my 30th birthday party at, but this was still perfect for what I wanted. I was able to create a playlist and play my own music. The room was set up exactly how I wanted it. I was able to put up decorations. The location was perfect for what I wanted and the value! If I have any future event, I'll be checking here 1st. The food was delicious - I chose food off the canapes menu and they didn't disappoint. I only ever heard positive things from my guests as well. I am so happy I stumbled across this venue to host my party.
