About this space

The Penny Black provides a space to cater to guests with different tastes when they think of a function. Inside the Band Room is a beautifully decorated, dark and moody space that features high ceilings, polished floorboards, pillars and a multiuse stage for entertainment or speeches.

Outside is a dedicated beer garden, covered with a marquee, roofing as well as wall awnings, making the space adaptable to Melbourne's everchanging weather.

Across the two parts of the venue is an interchangeable mixture of furniture including cocktail furniture, picnic tables, fixed wooden booths and tables and chairs and another private bar to get drinks in your guests’ hands fast. Out the back within the beer garden is also A DJ booth, positioned to the side of the space, with a dedicated dancefloor, this than offers two sound systems, making for a progressive function.

FAQ

If you are looking only at the Bandroom, we can host the band there with no problem, and the DJs can be set up on the stage once the band has finished.

No. The venue does not have the lead time to apply for a licence extension, so only the reduced timing can be offered.
