About this space

Legendary East Village KGB Bar has a newly created sexy and intimate space to entertain its overflowing crowd. Proprietor Denis Woychuk is giving his prohibition-era building its due, premiering a speakeasy-style club on the 3rd floor at 85 E. 4th Street.

The limited occupancy Red Room features gangster-inspired libations with names like Wiseguy and Cocksman and antiques from the period, including a copper bathtub as well as Woychuk’s art and object collections. The discriminative spot promotes the feel of days gone by when infamous gangster Lucky Luciano’s Palm Casino inhabited the building.

The space was beautiful. The paintings have been updated since the photos and look amazing in person. The stage was well-lit, and the microphone worked perfectly, which made it easy for me to run a quiz from the stage. The bartenders were attentive and kept everything running smoothly throughout the night. Music was easy to play from my own devices (you may need an AUX converter if you have an iPhone). There is also a wardrobe room at the back where you can store coats and personal items. It is possible to hang decorations on the walls, but I recommend confirming with the host which type of tape to use. We used masking tape to avoid damaging the paint.
If you are planning to use a projector, be aware that there is no ideal setup for it. While the venue has a screen, the projector setup is complicated and the image may not align as cleanly as you would want. We were warned about this in advance and decided to skip using a projector altogether. One small area for improvement was the communication with the host. While they were generally helpful, there were moments where the tone felt a bit abrupt and dismissive when I was simply following up on what had been discussed. Clearer expectations and a bit more responsiveness would have made the experience smoother.

Lori and the bartenders took amazing care of us!! Communication prior to the event helped us feel very prepared and at ease. The space was absolutely beautiful and drinks were fabulous. Our guests had a blast!! Thank you to everyone at KGB!
