The Cells Private Dining at Royal Melbourne Hotel
About this space
The former Bourke Street West Police complex comprises a cell block, watchhouse, police barracks, station, sergeants' quarters, and marshalling yard.
The S.C. Brittingham-designed cell block, overseen by S.E. Bindley, was finished by 1887, with the associated police station, barracks, and sergeants' quarters completed by 1889. This site is the last surviving 19th-century public building, holding historical significance as a representation of the Victorian Police Force’ evolution.
Discover 'The Cells,' a hidden gem in Melbourne. Step into the original heritage-listed bluestone Cellblock to experience a cozy dining room in cell #1, hosting up to 10 guests. This unique space blends Melbourne's history with contemporary dining.
