Centrally located in the heart of Melbourne at the iconic Trades Hall building, Common Rooms is Melbourne Fringe’s year-round home for independent artists, workers and people who like to party. With two fully equipped rooms, exclusive hires and long licenses, we can help you put the FUN in function, no matter the shape or size.

The Ballroom is a performance space & bar that holds up to 174 patrons standing or 114 seated theatre-style. Perfect for your big party, DJ night, music gig or cabaret show. The Lounge is a second, intimate salon-style space that holds up to 76 people and is ideal for smaller functions, workshops, meetings and rehearsals. The Lounge can be used as a break-out area or backstage green room at no extra cost, offering a combined total capacity of 250 patrons.

The Ballroom is a fully-equipped party space, with a professional bar and state-of-the-art sound system, projectors and all the lights you could dream of – and yes, that includes a mirror ball.

Full accessibility: Common Rooms is fully accessible, including a portable lift to the stage.

What an insane venue!!! All the staff absolutely killed it and were super accommodating for everything we needed the whole night! We had two bands and two DJs, and the sound tech was super helpfuland new what they were doing! One of the best nights ever!!!! I also want to mention the drinks menu was well priced and had a range of great options!

The only thing I would say is that I paid to use the venue's smoke machine, and it was rarely used throughout the night, but apart from that, everything was great!

This venue has got so much going for it. It would be so hard to find somewhere else that offers better value for money. The room already has a stage/professional lighting rig/sound system and private bar in the room. Not having to BYO sound and lighting equipment saves SO MUCH time and money. Plus, a permanently installed disco ball and fringe installation means the room already has a 'vibe' without needing too much beautification.

Something to consider is that the bar is only small and set up to only function during an event (not every weekend like a public bar would) so the offerings are limited and the stock that is available is set by the venue.

The venue was phenomenal, and the experience was unparalleled. Not only did the venue suit our event perfectly, but it also matched our values of inclusion, accessibility, gender expression, equality, and sexuality.
