Port Melbourne is one of the hippest areas of Melbourne. The district boasts a healthy mix of industrial history, parklands, beautiful beaches and some of the best places to hold a function in the city. It can be often dismissed as a place to party, but is it really fair? Over recent years it’s really turned a corner and now hosts some of the best venues in Melbourne. So, what exactly makes Port Melbourne such a great fit for your event? It has cast off its industrial past and is now home to some of the best bars, cafes and restaurants in the whole city, especially around the Bay Street area. There’s also the stunning architecture of the new office buildings, as well as six nature reserves and the beautiful views from Port Melbourne Beach. We’ve put our heads together and listed the top spots below.

Although located right down at the south-east corner of Port Melbourne, Bay Street is the beating heart of the area with its multitude of cafes, restaurants, bars and hotels. Add to this the number of unique designer stores and you have one of the coolest areas in the city.
Bay Street cannot take all the credit, though. At Fisherman’s Bend you’ll find some great restaurants and cafes that can be used as function venues in the area. You can also make a stop at Westgate Park and see the pink lake. Yes, a truly gorgeous one which has to be seen to be believed.
Since there’s now such a wide choice of bars, cafes and restaurants in the area, the vast amount of them can be hired for private parties like weddings, engagements and birthdays. As mentioned above, Bay Street offers the largest selection in Port Melbourne.
Around Fisherman’s Bend you can choose from waterfront venues with great views across the Yarra River. There are six public reserves along with many other smaller parks, too. Amongst them, you’ll be able to find a couple of venues that cater for outdoor wedding receptions and other private functions if you want to do something a little different.
Beacon Cove Promenade is another beautiful part of Port Melbourne with views over Port Phillip Bay. There’s also a handful of restaurants in the area that can take bookings for private functions and a couple of luxury hotels which cater for weddings, too.
Actually, why should you choose to host an event in Port Melbourne instead of another district of the city? With the area’s mix of chic restaurants, cafes and shopping areas it’ll be a huge hit with the people you take there. Add to this the beautiful public parks and reserves, as well as the waterfront venues along both the Yarra and Port Philip Bay. You’re onto a winner if you decide to have your function in this area.
Found an amazing venue within 10 minutes of looking! Really happy :)
I came across Tag Venue completely by accident and Sarah was unbelievably helpful in saving me valuable time and conducting the search on my behalf. I would not hesitate to use Tag Venue again.
It was really easy to find a wide range of potential locations, and I could contact many different venues with ease. Tagvenue allowed me to be very dynamic when organising my event. Would definitely use again!
