Affordable Party Venues Hire Guide

Partying in London doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank. This vast city has many affordable venue hire options for your event. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered! Not only have we listed the best and most affordable party venues all in one place, we’re also happy to share our savvy cheap party venue hire tips to save you money. Check them out below!

Affordable party venue hire in London – tips, tricks and ideas:

Set a budget - It’s good to know your limits. Setting a budget and deciding how much you can spend on each element of the party will help you out with organisation and decision making. It’s sensible to set apart a small sum for unexpected expenses as well. If there’s something you really want to include in your party, like a DJ or other expensive entertainment, set your budget around that one item.

The early bird catches the worm - If you look for a venue well in advance you will be able to choose the option that suits you best and fits your budget. If you hold off on your decision till the last minute, you may have to choose from among some very limited options. Although we are more than happy to assist you with your search, even a late one, if you’re looking for affordable options it’s best to secure them as soon as possible.

Don’t be afraid to take the road less travelled – Venture a bit further from the city centre and see what’s on offer. London is full of hidden venue gems and many of them can be hired at amazingly low prices. With the city’s great public transportation system, hiring even a less-centrally located spot should not cause any problems for your guests.

Go off-season – Many venues actually offer much lower rates when you book outside peak times. Hosting your party on a weekday evening instead of a busy Saturday can save you hundreds of pounds! Sometimes even the time of the hire can make a difference in pricing. Unless your party has to take place on a particular date, be flexible when deciding on the time and day of your event.

Pick the right-sized venue – Hiring a space for 300 guests when you’re only expecting 100 makes no sense. Usually, the bigger the venue, the higher the price. Picking a space that’s not too big and not too small is the golden rule of cheap party venue hire. If you’re unsure how many people will show up to your event, send out invitations with an RSVP.

Find a BYO space – You save a significant sum on drinks alone simply by picking a venue that allows you to bring your own booze. Make sure to check if they charge a corkage fee, although – if that’s the case, remember to calculate it into your budget.

Decide on the decorations - If you want to cut down on party costs, don’t go overboard with your decorations, as they might take up a lot of your budget. If you want to include some special adornments see if you can rent them out for your party. It can also be a smart idea to decide on a venue with an attractive interior, so no further decoration is necessary. You can also contact the venue manager to see if the venue has any decorations that you could hire for your event.

Go for a minimum spend - Minimum spend hire means you don’t pay a hire fee. Instead, you and your guests guarantee to spend an agreed upon minimum amount on food and drinks. It’s an affordable option that becomes easier if you encourage your guests to spend money at the bar.

Here are some suggestions for venues that may be suitable for your party:

  • The Famous Cock Tavern - a vintage-themed bar perfect for functions for around 100 people. With its famous cocktail bar, you will have no problem meeting any minimum spend requirements. The venue also offers different packages, so you are sure to find the best pricing option for your event. Guest rating: 4.8/5
  • Dalston Cosy & Stylish Loft -  as the name suggests, this stylish loft is a dream place for your small event. With beautiful decor, it won’t need many changes from you to fit your event. Different pricing options allow you to hire this venue within your budget. Guest rating: 4.9/5
  • St. Ethelburga's Centre - combining both historic arches and modern architecture this venue will wow your guests. With different equipment available on-site, you will get everything you need for your event at the hire price. Different pricing options will also allow you to choose what’s best for you. Guest rating: 4.8/5
  • House of Transformation - Event Space - this multi-purpose venue will fit right into your event. Allowing BYO catering, with a fully equipped kitchen on-site, you are sure to work within your budget here. Located minutes away from Haggerston Station, it can be easily accessed by train. Guest rating: 5.0/5

Affordable Party Venues in London FAQ

How much does it cost to hire an affordable venue in London?

Although London is known for its high price tag, you can still hire an affordable venue for your party. You can find plenty of affordable venues, including per person packages that start at as low as £12. If you’re looking for a minimum spend hire, expect prices to start at £100. You can also find venues charging hourly rates, with pricing starting at £20 per hour. Remember the hiring rates can vary depending on the day of the week and the time of the day, with weekday morning prices being the lowest. (Based on Tagvenue data.)

Which areas of London are best to find an affordable venue?

While Soho or Shoreditch are best known for their nightlife and we are sure you will be able to find a venue that fits your budget there, why not try other areas of London for an affordable party? Try The Angel or Islington, which, while not being the main spots for pubs and bars, are still filled with great party venues. Search along The Upper Street and you are sure to find just what you need. After undergoing a gentrification process in recent years, Brixton has become a new spot for partying, but still with lower prices than central London. If you don’t mind venturing out of the city centre, you will be able to find amazing party venues in North and West London.

Can I hire a unique affordable party venue in London?

The short answer is: yes, affordable doesn’t mean regular or boring! With the many amazing spaces London has in the offer, you are sure to find the unique one you’re looking for. Refurbished lofts are uncommon spaces that can make a great backdrop for your party, and won’t cost you a ton! A studio is a cheaper option, and you can adjust it to match your ideas and make it unique. Hiring a waterside venue will grant you beautiful views of the Thames river and add the wow factor to your party. If you look further away from the City you are sure to find an affordable option.

Can I rent a party venue in London for free?

Yes, there is a possibility to hire a venue for free! Look for venues that offer minimum spend options. This means that you and your guests are going to spend the minimum agreed amount on food and drinks. Just bear in mind that if you fail to do so you will have to pay the missing difference.

Thank you so much for such an amazing night. Do not have a bad word to say. Amazing room, private bar had a range of really nice drinks and cocktails everything you could wish for. Service was outstanding, nothing was ever too much of an ask. Staff were all kind, fun, charismatic and attentive. Easy process from start to finish, everything sorted out for us. Super accommodating with music and our decorations. Isy was great too, excellent response and had everything organised for us perfectly. Thank you so much!

I hired the venue for my boyfriend’s 30th birthday and it was everything I could ask for from a venue! Bhush was amazing from the beginning, very helpful and responsive to all my queries. We were able to have our own food, bar, decorations; basically the venue was as flexible as could be. We went with the bar Bhush recommended and were very impressed with the service. One person served 40 people and the wait for cocktails was no more than a couple minutes. The bar hire was very affordable as well as the drinks, plus the bar itself looked incredible and went perfectly with our theme. A special thank you to Simon, our event manager for the night who was extremely helpful from the get-go. He had the projector set up before we arrived, and helped us pack and clear up at the end of the night (thank you for carrying pizzas!). All in all a wonderful night, thank you for helping us do everything exactly as we imagined!

Excellent location, good space and everything we needed for our small birthday party. Natural light and very good ventilation, host is very kind and prompt at communicating but at the same time not pestering at all like others, respects your space. I am very satisfied. Good price for the location, close to Tesco and Moorgate station.
Booked Mem Saab Dining Rooms at Colonel Saab
The food was great and the restaurant was really beautiful! We really liked the paintings and historic pieces. Special thanks to Atul for taking the time to explain to us the stories behind each of those extraordinary artistic pieces! My guests were so happy and thanked me for picking Col Saab to host our work party.

The venue was bigger than the photos do justice. Behind the scenes, the host of this venue was so kind and answered all of my questions over the phone and left lots of cleaning supplies for us at the venue: including bin bags (even saying that we can leave rubbish behind as long as it’s bagged - but we took all rubbish with us because he was so nice). The value is really great - especially for London. The location was also easy to get to and there was a shop near by for drinks (or food for afters). A really great experience.

We really enjoyed the Studio 54 party that we had here. Its a great space, the decoration of the place is really whacky and fun and it's a nice size so that 100 people don't feel packed in like sardines but it would still look busy if not many people came.
