About this space

York Art Gallery is a public gallery housed in an 1870s building that displays paintings, sculpture and decorative arts spanning the 1400s to the present.

Design: The interior combines 19th-century architectural details and plain, contemporary exhibition rooms; neutral walls and controlled natural and gallery lighting keep focus on the artworks.

Features: Permanent and rotating galleries present historic and modern collections across painting, ceramics and sculpture. On-site facilities include a café and two retail shops, accessible toilets and a step-free guest entrance. The venue also provides Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, a PA system, and permits own music and external DJs.

Ideal for: Cultural or corporate groups seeking a polished, exhibition-led standing reception or guided-tour style gathering.

What sets it apart: An elevated, partially covered terrace and adjacent garden provide an outdoor reception area attached to the gallery.

What guests say: The gallery is easy to navigate and presents a wide-ranging, high-quality collection from historic to modern works. The on-site café and shops provide comfortable refreshment and exhibition-related retail.
