The Princess of Wales Ratings and Reviews
I hosted a new years eve party at The Princess of Wales. It was a complete success. Libby, who I organised the night with via tag venue was very friendly, clear and timely with providing information for the night. The staff at The Princess of Wales went over and above to accommodate us, we arrived to find they had decorated the room we booked with balloons and props which was fantastic. The bar staff had great chat and were attentive on serving drinks, and, gave us full control of our music for our room. The venue was also lively and open until 3am, with the kind of people you want to be around, which can be hard to find in london.
At around 1am or so the audio connection for the room incurred a glitch where we couldn't turn the music up loud enough, so we had to switch to the upstairs dj set. We all noticed that a significant amount of people began to leave after this point (as we had planned our own genre sets of music). In addition, in the downstairs toilet the glass shelf above the silk was broken so people who had rested their glasses there kept smashing them in the sink (Not too bad for us but fyi for the venue). Lastly, we weren't informed that we didn't have the downstairs smoking area all night. Not a huge deal but would have been good to know before!
Venue manager Libby is very helpful and communicative.
The room itself was well decorated for the festive season. Guests were impressed by the room.
Staffs were welcoming and good mannered.
Cocktails were good and well priced.
There is good amount of free parking on weekends outside the pub, it's very handy.
The food was OK at best, the mini burger was really not palatable. Some of the foods were good but overall could be better.
Audio system is not bluetooth enabled, you need a 3.5mm headphone jack hole to connect your own music.
The service can be slow or non-existing as staffs serve customers downstairs, not the "permanent manned bar" as described, guests sometimes had to wait a good 15mins for someone to come upstairs.
Staff at the venue were extremely helpful - they helped us decorate the venue and even add their own finishing touches which were greatly appreciated. The interior of the venue is nicely decorated as it is. Food was good although because it was a mass order, the food arrived slightly cold. The event manager Libby was very helpful and understanding to all our needs.
Sound system + projection were not working the night we were there although we tested this out the day before. The building is slightly old and hence we got told not to "jump around" when we opened the dance floor up because the floor shakes...
The space was perfect for our party with room for chatting, eating and dancing in different areas. All self contained along with a private toilet. Having outdoor space was a bonus in the hot weather. The staff were really helpful and I think enjoyed the event along with us! Food was excellent and tasty.
The doors to outside had to close earlier than we would have liked as it is in a residential area. Also the end time of midnight felt a bit early but, again, it's because it's a pub in a residential area.
Very easy to organise upfront.
Wonderful staff on arrival, the manager and barman for the night were great.
Great garden and outside space!
Room is a little tired but honestly it doesn’t really matter, overall it’s a great venue for a casual party!
Great food, location, service.
None at all
The space was brilliant, so much room for our party, and the food was excellent.
Would have been good if we could have requested particular music, but the 80s playlist that was put on was still great!
Great location and the venue was lovely. The downstairs room was great and the garden were perfect for our party. Staff were friendly and helped with our complaint.
Mix up with the canape selection that we ordered so guests were complaining. But staff compensated with free pizzas which we were very grateful for.
Also made to move out of garden area before end of the event which was disappointing as this was the best part of the venue.
We hired the whole floor downstairs. Very nice and cosy space.
Good beer and wine selection
The bar downstairs is not very convenient.
The real disappointment was the food that didn't match the quality of the venue. I was expecting something more sophisticated than pizza and fries.
