The venue and space reserved itself is lovely. The food was delicious and affordable, the drinks are not badly priced for London. The photo booth was lots of fun. We had a private bar, and curtains as well as a security just for us. The security was very friendly. All of my guests had a fun night.

The communication over email was slow. Upon arrival the venue was not prepared for us at all. They didn’t have the guest list they insisted I send two days early (which I did). There wasn’t enough pizza doughs for the amount I wanted (which is okay because I hadn’t preordered, but I’d expect a venue who offers £5 pizzas till 9:30 to have enough dough for more than 10 pizzas with a big party coming, even for their own sake of making money). The lady tending the bar at first was not very friendly or helpful with any requests. I felt uncomfortable just asking for a glass because of her energy. I asked the manager to change and then it was all good. I was told the music would be a mix of genres including commercial, but when I asked the DJ to make a request he said it was strictly a hip hop night… I wouldn’t have booked it knowing that because I’m not a fan of hip hop. The security at our door was nice, he was very caring and diligently checked the guests in and out. However whoever was checking upstairs didn’t give half the people wristbands (again because they weren’t ready at first) so then there were various misunderstandings about who could come in and couldn’t. The manager on shift that night was helpful but I think there was some miscommunications internally between the team as they didn’t know about the arrangements I was discussing with their colleague for weeks. I arrived later than I had planned and they still weren’t prepared. It was a fun night for my guests overall, personally I was a bit disappointed with the circumstances as I had been planning and stressing for months and I just wanted a care free evening. Definitely recommend going to the venue first and talking to people in person, something I should’ve done.

This was the perfect venue for our party! Great music, great pizza, lovely and helpful staff! We even had our own security person to make sure that our area stayed private for our party. I'd definitely recommend this venue.

Location was great, easy for guests to find. The curtained area was perfect for our private party but could still feel the fun and vibe of the club. Music was just right. Guests enjoyed the food and was generally a fun night. They allowed us to bring a birthday cake and lit the candles for us, which made the occasion really nice for the birthday girl.

The communication between the office, the team on the night, security and the customer really needs to improve. I provided an itinerary for when the guests were due to arrive, to serve welcome drinks, to serve food, I sent the pre-order for food and drinks and guestlist names all within the timeframe requested. However, when I arrived, the team asked me multiple times about the schedule and when we wanted food to be served. In the schedule, I said guests were due to arrive from 7pm, but when some guests arrived they were told to wait by security because we were still "setting up". In reality, everything was ready. The food was served to us over an hour late, even though I had provided the schedule. Some guests that had to leave early didn't get food because of this. Not all of the sides I had pre-ordered and pre-paid for were served because I was told the kitchen had run out of food. Furthermore, I was told that I must include names on the guestlist, but security didn't have any list and there was no communication on how this was handled. I had to explain to one of the security team that one of my guests was on the list but they were dismissive and denied I had discussed this with them and reported me to the Manager. The manager helped resolve the issue in the end, but told me that I was causing trouble when all I wanted was a nice experience for my guests. This was a very stressful and unpleasant experience. The venue promised to take care of everything but the service left a lot to be desired. The team on the night were polite but some of the security staff were quite rude. Better organisation and communication would have made for a much better experience. As paying guests for a private party, I expected to be looked after better.

The bar staff, manager and security were so fantastic and made the night run smoothly. It was such a fab venue, had everything we needed. I would highly recommend colours and can't wait to host there again!

About The Book Club

Two spacious floors of a former Victorian warehouse on Leonard Street have been kitted out for daytime eating, drinking, thinking & meeting.

The interior blends the raw, pared-down character of the factory building with layers of bespoke furniture, mosaics and graphic lighting features, as well as the constantly evolving exhibitions that adorn the walls.

It's open, airy, drowning in natural light and the perfect environment for meetings, lunches, an afternoon cocktail or a quick game of ping pong!
