Location was great. The private dining was perfect for us with 5 children, who had the freedom to move about between courses without getting in other guests' way. View of the city was fantastic. Starters were all fine. Soup, game pie, smoked salmon, they were all very nice, if only rather safe, with no particular finesse. Desserts were good. Excellent Eton mess, plum pudding, brownies, ice-cream and cheese board.

We knew the menu was limited to fixed festive menu. Even considering that, the main course was a big let down. Steaks were visibly dry . It was cooked fine, but guess was cooked before other dishes, being left for other dishes to be ready. They came with no sauce (no option was offered), and underseasoned, so tasted bland. For my part, I added table salt to the steak at a restaurant for the first time in my life. Fries were good, though. Pork Holstein was one big piece of the meat with a small portion of side spinach. It tasted good, but just too much of the same thing with nothing else to clean the palette. Macaroni cheese was rather dry, quite possibly overcooked. It was served on its own with nothing else at all. No side vegetables dishes were provided or options offered. The worst offence is that the turkey dishes (4 of them) were left off the order to the kitchen, so they came 15 minutes after everyone else's meal. At least they looked and tasted good, with the right balance of meat, potatoes and vegetables, and with gravy. Many restaurants use festive season as an excuse for drop in standard, but for us, it felt worse than that. It was the lack of attention to details. Has Marco become complacent in his success? It used to be a good place to eat before COVID era when we used to enjoy our visists, but it seems to have dropped a few levels. I urge Marco and his management team to revisit what is important, and hope it will return to the high standard I fondly remember from past visits.
