Yes. Birmingham has several private party spaces starting below £500, particularly community halls, studios and smaller private rooms. The Newman Community Centre starts at £28 per hour, CFC Studio from £50 per hour, and the private dining room at Manahatta Temple Street from a £50 hire fee. Check food, drink and any additional charges before comparing the total. You can also browse cheap party venues in Birmingham.

The tightest cluster sits around Temple Street, Colmore Row, Bennetts Hill and Edmund Street, all roughly 0.1 miles from the city centre and a short walk from both New Street and Snow Hill. Manahatta Temple Street, Vagabond, Star Bar at The Cocktail Club, The Lost & Found and Newhall Street Tavern are all in that radius.

These venues have paid parking nearby rather than their own car park, so they suit groups arriving by train, tram or taxi. If most of your guests are driving, an Aston or Sutton Coldfield venue with free parking will be less hassle.

Three of the currently listed private party spaces have free parking on site:

City-centre and Jewellery Quarter venues generally have paid parking nearby instead. Worth weighing up if you are hosting a family event or bringing in your own catering and décor by car.

Around 35 is a common party size and an awkward one: too many for most private dining rooms, too few to justify a whole-venue minimum spend. Look for spaces with a standing capacity of 40 to 90, which gives your group room without leaving the space feeling empty.

Good starting points are The Secret Room at The Lost & Found (40 standing, 30 dining), Gin Parlour at The Distillery (70 standing, 40 dining), Star Bar at The Cocktail Club (80 standing) and Main Hall at CFC Studio (90 standing), where a Client hosted a 30th birthday for around 35 guests.

Your Guide to Hiring Party Venues in Birmingham

Why the same room costs two different prices

Two things move the price in Birmingham more than anything else: the day of the week and the time of day.

  • The Actress & Bishop in the Jewellery Quarter is a £175 hire fee Sunday to Thursday and £350 on Friday and Saturday – the same room, double the price, for the same 175-standing capacity.
  • The Secret Room at The Lost & Found is a £100 hire fee for a 9am–5pm session, or a £700 minimum spend for a 12pm–11:30pm one. An afternoon party in that room costs a fraction of an evening one.
  • The Mezzanine at All Bar One Brindley Place is a flat £200 hire fee every day of the week – except Saturday from 6pm, when it becomes £200 plus a £2,000 minimum spend.

If your date is flexible, compare Saturday night, weekday, Sunday and daytime rates. The examples above show that changing the day or time can substantially reduce the cost of the same room.

What to add to the hire fee before you compare venues

The advertised price is rarely the total. Add these up for each shortlisted venue and compare the totals, not the headline:

  • Food and drink, or the minimum spend you are committing to
  • Service charge, and whether VAT is already included – on Tagvenue listings, Birmingham prices shown include VAT
  • Staffing and security, where the venue requires it for a private event
  • AV, DJ, PA hire or entertainment, if not already in the space
  • Décor, and any external supplier or decorator access charge
  • Cleaning, and any late-finish or licence extension fee
  • Corkage, if you are bringing your own drinks

A packaged venue can carry a higher headline number and still work out cheaper once staffing, furniture and food are already in the price.

What does “private hire” actually mean in Birmingham?

"Private" can mean three different things on a venue listing. Check which one you are getting before you book.

What you book

What it means

Birmingham example

Whole venue

The entire venue is yours, with no other customers present.

Vagabond Birmingham (180 standing), Newhall Street Tavern (120), Sovereign Studios (102)

Private space

A dedicated room or area within a larger venue.

Upstairs at The Actress & Bishop (175), The Music Room at O’Neill’s (250), Manahatta Temple Street (25)

Shared space

A reserved area within a venue that remains open to other customers.

The Rectory at 180 Club (150 standing, St Paul’s Square)

For milestone birthdays, engagement parties and events where privacy matters, whole-venue or private-room hire gives you more control over the celebration. For smaller, informal gatherings, a reserved area in a shared venue may be enough and can cost less. Before booking, confirm whether the space is fully private, whether other customers will be present and which facilities are exclusive to your group.

What size private party venue do you need in Birmingham?

Start with your guest count, then check the capacity for the layout you actually need. Standing capacity works for parties where guests will mingle and dance, while dining capacity tells you how many can be seated. Remember to allow space for a DJ, dance floor, buffet or cake table if you need them.

Which area of Birmingham is best for a private party?

The best area depends on how your guests are travelling and what you need from the venue. Birmingham City Centre and the Jewellery Quarter are convenient for public transport, while venues further out can be worth considering if parking, space or lower hire rates are priorities.

Area

Good for

What to consider

Birmingham City Centre

Guests arriving by train, central celebrations, bars and restaurants

Convenient for New Street and Snow Hill; check parking costs and availability

Jewellery Quarter

Birthdays, private dining and characterful venues

Good transport links; compare the individual venue's parking and late-night options

Digbeth

Larger parties, creative and less traditional spaces

Check walking distance from transport, finish times and parking

Aston

Groups looking beyond the city centre

Some lower-cost options; check transport and parking for the specific venue

Sutton Coldfield

Guests travelling by car or looking outside central Birmingham

Some venues offer parking; less convenient for guests relying on central stations

If most guests are arriving by train, start with City Centre, Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth options and check the actual walking route from the station. If most are driving, compare parking availability and total hire cost rather than choosing by area alone.

Which Birmingham party venue suits your occasion?

Different celebrations call for different spaces. Start with how you plan to use the venue — whether you need seated dining, music and dancing, daytime space, exclusive hire or room to decorate — then compare venues that support that setup.

Can you have a DJ, a dance floor and your own music?

Many Birmingham private party venues allow your own music, DJs or use of a PA system, but the rules and finish times vary by venue. If music and dancing are central to your party, check the permitted event and music finish time, whether a DJ or live band is allowed, and what sound equipment is available.

Studios and community spaces work differently. CFC Studio, Sovereign Studios and The Newman Community Centre all allow you to play your own music, and the first two have a PA system, but they are not licensed bars – you arrange drinks yourself.

If dancing is the point of the party, confirm the permitted finish time, whether a DJ or live band is allowed, how much clear floor space remains once furniture is in place, and whether any noise or volume restrictions apply.

Can you bring your own food and drink?

It depends on the venue. External catering, BYO drinks and corkage rules vary, so check the food and drink policy before comparing prices.

External catering is not automatically cheaper. Factor in any corkage, kitchen or external-caterer fees, staffing, crockery and cleaning before comparing a dry-hire space with a venue package.

Before booking, ask whether external catering is allowed, whether a fee applies, what kitchen or fridge access is available, the corkage rate for BYO drinks, and how dietary requirements are handled. For food-led events, compare restaurants with function rooms in Birmingham and pubs with function rooms

Can you decorate a private party venue in Birmingham?

Yes, but how much you can change depends on the venue. Some spaces already have a strong built-in style, while others give you more freedom to bring in your own décor and create the look yourself.

  • Blank-canvas spaces give you more freedom to personalise the room, but may require more setup, furniture or supplier coordination. CFC Studio, Sovereign Studios and The Newman Community Centre expect you to bring the look. Full freedom, more work, and you need setup and clear-down time built into the booking.
  • Styled venues already provide much of the atmosphere, which can reduce the amount of decorating you need to do. Vagabond, The Lost & Found and Manahatta already have an atmosphere. Little decorating needed, less freedom to change it.

Before booking, check whether you can use balloons, banners, candles, confetti or wall fixings, whether external decorators are allowed, and how much setup and pack-down time is included. Also, compare the total cost of creating the setup you want, not just the venue's starting hire price.

Which Birmingham private party venues have outdoor spaces?

If outdoor space matters to your party, look for venues with a rooftop, terrace, garden or courtyard. Rooftop and terrace spaces can work particularly well for drinks-led celebrations, while gardens and courtyards may suit more relaxed daytime events. Check whether the outdoor area is private to your group, included in the hire price and covered by the venue’s wet-weather plan.

If an outdoor element is essential to your event, summer party venues in Birmingham are a better place to start, and it is worth widening the search radius beyond the city centre.

What to check before booking a private party venue

Before paying a deposit, confirm:

  • Total cost: hire fee or minimum spend, plus any staffing, security, cleaning or equipment charges
  • Capacity: for the layout you actually need, including space for dancing, a DJ or buffet
  • Privacy: whole-venue hire, private room or reserved area
  • Food and drink: what's included and whether external catering, BYO or corkage is allowed
  • Music: DJ or live-band rules, sound equipment and permitted finish time
  • Décor: what you can bring and how much setup and pack-down time you have
  • Access: public transport, parking and step-free access
  • Outdoor space: whether any rooftop, terrace, garden or courtyard is private, included and has a wet-weather alternative
  • Cancellation: deposit, cancellation and refund terms

Send the same questions to every venue on your shortlist. Comparing identical answers is far faster than comparing brochures.

Honestly, Austin and the team at Kitchen Garden Cafe were absolutely incredible and made my 30th birthday party really one to remember. They were attentive and communicative on the night but really let us enjoy ourselves and worked so hard in the background. I cannot thank Austin and the team enough.

Booked Ground Floor at Highbury Hall
5.0
Beautiful venue, with lovely grounds which we couldn't enjoy due to the Great British weather. The venue was warm and the library was the ideal location for our "antique style" photobooth. We also used the two side rooms as children's and teenager rooms, which was perfect. Welcome drinks being served in the bar with the log fire was an added bonus which guests were wowed by The team at Highbury Hall went above and beyond to ensure all our requests were met. I would like to thank Sue, Sam and Claire for making our day a memorable one. We received exceptional service, authentic tasting food, which was served piping hot, dainty but filling canapés and mouth watering Desserts. I would recommend this venue and their outatanding team.

Booked The Gallery at The Lost & Found Birmingham
5.0
I booked the gallery for a private function and was so impressed by the whole event. The buffet food was excellent; delicious and well presented. The drinks ‘tokens’ could be used for a variety of drinks in the private, gallery bar (if they didn’t have what you wanted the would go down to the main bar for you). The bar staff were excellent; shout out to Tenday. Lovely ambiance in the gallery, with view of the main bar. My guests remarked on the lovely food and beautiful venue.
