About Mel's Drive-In Lombard Street
In September of 1985, the Lombard Street location became the first of the "Next Generation" Mels to open. Patrons of the earlier Mels drive-in locations flooded the restaurant on opening day, bringing their children to experience the legendary comfort food of their youth. The restaurant's unique ability to satisfy the nostalgia pangs of its customers quickly prompted the Coors Beer and Goodrich Tire Companies to feature it in their television commercials, and Mel's has been a regular star of film and television ever since.
The Lombard location is situated in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of the Marina District, known for its boutique shopping along Union Street, art galleries, and bustling bar scene. A short distance from The Presidio, this location is close to many of San Francisco's most popular attractions, including The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and the famously crooked section of Lombard Street.
