The Chandelier Suite at Assembly Rooms - Newcastle upon Tyne
About this space
The Chandelier Suite is the Grand Assembly Room: the room that gave the Assembly Rooms Newcastle its name. It was designed by William Newton and opened in 1776, and it still has its original Georgian proportions and ornamental plasterwork. Crystal chandeliers hang beneath a gilded, domed ceiling. It is the grandest room in a Grade II* listed building, one of the finest surviving Georgian assembly rooms in England.
The room measures 25 by 11 metres, with a ceiling height of almost 10 metres. It holds up to 400 guests standing, 375 seated theatre-style or 180 for a banquet. That makes it ideal for weddings, gala dinners, awards ceremonies, conferences and receptions. Generator Live recently filled it with 375 delegates for a full-day music industry conference.
The suite is on the first floor, with lift access. It opens onto the Falstaff Bar, Wedgewood and the Regency Suite, so guests can move between drinks, ceremony, dinner and dancing without leaving the floor. Book the whole first floor and you have exclusive use of the building's hospitality wing, with the grand staircase as your arrival.
Over 250 years the Assembly Rooms has welcomed Charles Dickens, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Johann Strauss I. Today the Chandelier Suite brings that heritage to weddings, dinners and conferences.
