Situated just outside the hustle and bustle of Manchester city centre, sits the former home of Manchester’s most famous Victorian writer, Elizabeth Gaskell. This beautifully restored house with spectacular period rooms and villa style garden, will provide a unique backdrop for every occasion.
The House can provide a unique and stunning backdrop for weddings, offering a choice of two ceremony rooms. The cosy, book-lined Study and the beautiful Drawing Room with its boudoir grand piano, both provide a special space for a wedding ceremony, both complete with Victorian furnishings and furniture to suit each wedding party. These period rooms are perfect for the couple wanting something special, intimate and with plenty of charm.
Following the ceremony, Elizabeth Gaskell’s House can provide a drinks reception in the delightful, period Dining Room, which is where Elizabeth herself wrote her famous stories and letters. The beautifully restored gardens with its mix heritage and native planting schemes offer another option for a drinks reception and is a charming backdrop for wedding photographs.
The house's light and airy basement, includes what was originally the Servants Hall and former Kitchen and provides the perfect space for celebrations, whether that be a traditional afternoon tea, a buffet or a formal sit-down meal.
Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is offered to weddings on an exclusive use basis and can accommodate up to 36 people.
If you’re interested in hiring the house for a meeting, workshop or conference, Elizabeth Gaskell’s House offers a choice of seminar rooms and period rooms.
Each space can accommodate up to 35 delegates in a theatre style and include deluxe screens for presentations. The house is accessible with lifts to all floors, disabled parking is available on-site and hearing loops are also available in some of the spaces.
The beautifully restored garden is an ideal space for events to utilise for breaks and team building exercises.
