The Drawing Room at Elizabeth Gaskell's House
About this space
The Drawing Room is a private Event Space in Elizabeth Gaskell's House and the original Victorian reception room used by the author.
Design: The room is furnished and finished in authentic period style, featuring patterned wallpaper, a deep red floral carpet, heavy curtains, framed prints and modest-scale Victorian joinery that create a compact, formal interior.
Features: The room is equipped with Wi‑Fi and a PA system and allows hirers to play their own music. The space has step-free guest access, wheelchair-accessible facilities and accessible toilets. The room looks out over the house’s villa garden through large sash windows and receives generous natural daylight.
Ideal for: Small, intimate seated gatherings or reception-style social groups that seek a quiet, historic setting.
What guests say: The house's period rooms are compact yet rich in detail, and the volunteer guides are knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
