Historic Ship at Gazela Primeiro
About this space
Gazela Primeiro was built at the shipyard of J. M. Mendes in Setubal, Portugal to fish the Grand Banks off Newfoundland. Her records, as she now stands, date from 1901. She came into the hands of the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild in 1990, where she has become a living classroom for our educational programs.
In addition to our public events and education, we are an open air venue and the only barkentine that is still sea-worthy in the US. Gazela is an extremely unique place to host your private party, and creates an intimate atmosphere right on the Delaware River. Take a look at our website for more info and FAQ.
