Yarrow is an award-winning cookery school and event space set in a restored 400-year-old steading in East Lothian, about 18 minutes from Edinburgh. It feels rural and peaceful, but it’s still an easy drive from the city. The main space is the cookery school itself — a bright, contemporary teaching kitchen that works just as well for hands-on food experiences as it does for private events.
The kitchen opens straight onto a private courtyard and landscaped gardens, which makes it easy to flow outside for drinks or summer dining. The gardens are planted with herbs and edible flowers, and there’s even a restored 400-year-old water wheel with a small waterfall running through it. It adds character without feeling staged.
There’s an on-site bar serving wine, cocktails, and low- and no-alcohol options, and the wider steading includes a few independent businesses and accommodation. So it feels more like a small destination than a single venue. Guests can stay over, relax, and make more of the experience instead of rushing off at the end of the night.
