Top Tips for Planning a Birthday Party in Sydney

Throwing a birthday party should be fun, not stressful. Here’s how to keep it simple and make sure your big day goes off without a hitch:

  • Create a guest list – Know your numbers early, whether it’s 15 or 150 guests, so you can plan your budget and venue size.
  • Set a budget – Decide how much you want to spend upfront. It’ll make picking the right venue much easier (and help avoid nasty surprises later).
  • Start your venue search early – Popular spots book up fast. Focus on venues within your price range and choose based on the vibe you want, whether it’s a private room, rooftop bar, or outdoor garden.
  • Have a backup plan for outdoor events – Sydney’s weather is usually great, but it’s smart to ask venues about tents, heaters, or indoor options just in case.
  • Sort your food and drinks – Check if the venue offers catering or if BYO is allowed. Many venues offer birthday packages, starting from just $20 per person.
  • Use the space smartly – Think about the room layout. For dinners, one big table keeps things cosy. For a dance party, leave plenty of open space around the DJ booth.

Booked Studio with natural light at Beautiful White Space
5.0
I recently celebrated my 40th birthday at the most wonderful venue, and I couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The space was even bigger than it looked in the pictures—plenty of room for everyone to relax, mingle, and dance. We played music straight from an iPad, which worked perfectly and kept the atmosphere just right all day. The kitchen and toilet facilities were super convenient and clean, making everything run smoothly. A special mention to Andrew, who was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. It truly was the perfect setting for a memorable evening! Highly recommend

Booked Balcony Room at The Captain's Balcony
5.0
We hosted my husbands 40th in the main bar (street level) exclusively for the night and it was perfect. The team were very accommodating to any requests we had and were very friendly and professional to deal with. We opted for the per person package which included 3 hours of drink and canapés and we were very happy with it. We could choose the music which was great as we could change it as the night progressed.

Booked Curlewis Bar at Hotel Bondi
5.0
The venue was perfect for what I was looking for and it was also very affordable. Erin (the lady helping me organise this event) was honestly amazing to work with. She always emailed me back within the day of emailing her and answered every single thing I asked her. She made this whole experience so easy and effortless. The venue itself was very nice. It was a very hot day but the aircon was perfect. The staff were all very helpful with anything I needed on the day of the event and they were very accomodating for all my requests. The male bathroom was accessible to the public via the event space but this wasn't an issue at all as my event was during the day on a Saturday so it wasn't very busy, meaning not many people from the public accessed the bathroom during my event. I was able to use a USB to put up a slide show on the TV and have some balloons and a cake set up for everyone to get photos infront of. The food was very delicious. All round the venue and the staff were awesome and i would definitely recommend this space for anyone considering.

Booked The Garden Bar and Terrace at Tatler Sydney
4.9
Tatler was a great venue for a birthday party. The garden terrace and adjoining sitting area was a perfect space for around 35-40 people. Brendan was fantastic to work with in organising the event and everything went smoothly on the night. Great space for dancing after 9pm as well!

Booked The Glenmore Room at The Occidental
4.8
The Occidental was an amazing place for my 21st to be held. The bartender Christine was nothing short of wonderful and she makes an excellent Espresso Martini. Venue was spacious and the private bar was perfect. Communication with the function managers was good too! Although we were not situated in the Glenmore room, rather their other function room, they are very similar, just lack of cocktail style tables and dimmer lighting :)

Booked Oasis at Sanctuary Hotel

Staff were super helpful from start to finish. We held our daughters 21st Birthday celebrations with some family and friends. Everyone had an awesome time and the food was delicious. Having a private room with pool tables made for a fun night and the friendly barman, Jason (Bar Manager) and Erin (Venue Manager) and all the staff made everything run smoothly.

Booked Upstairs Lounge at Bondi Liquor Co
5.0
The space was lovely, felt very homey and private. Lots of flexibility with music, great system, and the bar upstairs makes it very comfortable. The staff were extra accomodating for us which is usually rare, and they were very friendly too. Almost everyone of my guests complimented the space. Food from catering was was also high quality. So happy I decided to book Bondi liquor and Co, instead of having the event at home. Same personal vibe but zero hosting hustle. Will book again.
