About Historic Monument
This is a 1947 midcentury by James DeLong, one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s protégés. It’s up in Mount Washington, tucked away from traffic, but you can be downtown in ten minutes. The house hasn’t been updated — it’s still exactly as he built it. Lots of wood, glass, and open space. The windows run almost the whole way around, so you get city views, and on a clear day you can see the ocean.
Inside, it’s minimal but warm. Concrete floors with that soft rust color, horizontal wood panels, built-in sofa, built-in desk, lighting that’s part of the design. The big sliding glass door opens to a terrace that hangs over the hillside, with succulents everywhere. There’s also a small zen garden that makes the whole place feel calm before you even walk in.
