How to Make Your Chicago Party Stand Out

Here’s what makes a party memorable beyond the venue:

  • Go with a unique space: A loft like Gallery Loft in Fulton Market or a gallery like Vault Gallerie already gives you an edge.

  • Add a creative theme: Try out eras, movie inspirations, or seasonal themes (90s throwback, rooftop luau, etc.).

  • Book real music: Live music or DJs boost energy. Many venues allow external vendors. Just remember to confirm sound system access first.

  • Plan your menu early: Want to keep it simple? Opt for bars with built-in catering like Barcocina West Town. This spot hasless coordination, more time to party.

  • Set up something interactive: Add a photo booth, slideshow, or even a quick trivia round to keep guests engaged.

Throwing a Party in Chicago on a Budget?

You don’t need deep pockets to throw a great event. Here are a few cost-saving tips:

  • Book venues with event packages: Spaces like Tandoor Char House - Lincoln Park charge around $30–$35 per person, food included.
  • Choose lesser-known neighborhoods: Venues like RLM Events and Design (Irving Park) offer hourly rates and are often more flexible on time and setup.
  • Skip the full meal: Book a venue with flat hire fee or one that allows external catering, then serve finger food, canapés, or a dessert bar to keep costs down.
  • DIY elements: Bring your own playlist, decorate with budget-friendly lighting, or create themed props instead of hiring vendors.

Booked Celebration Loft at Bright Industrial Loft In West Loop

Excellent size space! Looked just as pictured and was clean. Plenty of table and chair options and I loved the grass walls. Communication with the owner was excellent. He was responsive, thoughtful, and had great customer service. The security guard was awesome too. This was the perfect place for my party. I would definitely rent here again!

Booked The Fremont at iO Theater

Out of the numerous large parties I've planned, iO Theater stands out as the most resourceful, flexible, and convenient event venue ever. Maureen, Charlie, and Fritz were super helpful throughout. The catering was so delicious, especially the calamari baskets. They have a free professional sound system, optional raised stage platforms, tables (with table cloths and skirts) and chairs for over 100 guests, a projector with screen, and a long white wall that can be served as a screen for 2 additional projectors! Their event space was perfect for my web/tablet/board gaming party with 130 guests. They have curtains for all the windows to create the desired low light environment. I used the projector they have in the event space but didn't use their dropdown projector screen to save space (I brought my own projector screen sheet and a staff helped me tie its anchors on the conveniently located curtain rods). Their new internet system was not yet set up for the event space but they let me hire my own internet contractor to set up faster wifi (there is one internet port for the space at the time which could let us set up internet access points). They gave us an audio person to help play our soundtrack during the entire event. The long and round tables and chairs were enough for my guests to play board games and eat on. Charlie helped us map out the set up of everything so that on the day their staff have everything ready for us. The location and parking was easy. Everything went extremely smoothly! Highly recommend iO Theater's venue space!

Booked Loft at Lofty Wicker Park
4.7
Great huge space! Worked perfectly for a celebration. I will say the floor was sticky when we arrived so I could tell the space had been used a lot and there were balloons left over from a previous party there but we didn’t really mind. Taking one star off because communication wasn’t easy, but once they realized that they needed to communicate better it was fine. Would rent again!

Booked Private Party Room at Claddagh Ring Pub
5.0
Kris and his team were attentive throughout the 3 hrs we booked the venue. Place was very clean (few guests mentioned this), including bathrooms. Some of our guests took advantage of the $45 wristbands. We were also able to keep tab open for those who only had a few drinks. All had a great time. Thank you for hosting our party!

Port and Park Bistro was the best place for our engagement party! The food, provided by the restaurant, was all excellent. The bar staff were incredible and added to the energy of the evening. Steve was great to work with and made sure that our group felt at home. We really enjoyed the total privacy of the room and entire experience!

Booked The Clybourn at iO Theater
5.0
This was an amazing venue! We host this party every year, and because of the size of the event and our limited budget, we often struggle to get enough space. This venue is HUGE. There is a very large and attractive upstairs room, a very large bar with wrap around mingling areas, and a very large outdoor patio where we had a great band (Roseloft) perform! They also had terrific desserts -- much better than we often are able to get. We got a ton of compliments, and we will definitely go back to IO Theater when we have our event in Chicago again in a few years! Also, we would definitely recommend the band Roseloft. We asked them to learn "Soul Man" by the Blues Brothers so that we could do a little fun dance event, and they knocked it out of the park!

Booked Halsted Space at HALSTED SPACE
5.0
My event was a birthday party for 6th grade boys/NFL draft watch party and it was amazing. The space was large and had many different areas for the guests to sit and hang out. Three large TVs and a projector. We felt like it was our own and everyone was able to relax and be themselves. Giant kitchen was a plus! Huge success.
