Birthday Party Themes for Adults

There’s no better way to celebrate a milestone birthday than throwing a party with your favorite people in our country’s capital. Whether you’re turning 25 or 60, a themed party will surely keep the spirits alive and remind you of the best things in life- laughter, joy, and amazing company. That’s why we’ve put together some unique and classic party themes for you to make the most of your day!

Glow Party

Dress code: white/neon

The best things in life happen in the dark! Hosting a glow-in-the-dark-themed party at a bar will bring back some sweet childhood memories and make everyone feel like they’re 10 again for a night! Though many people tend to associate a glow party with a rave, it doesn’t have to be that way! Simply get a black light, glow sticks, and glowing drinks, and ask someone to take care of the fluorescent body paint and makeup. You can hire a face painter and let them work their magic at the venue entrance! Get your hands on fluorescent highlighters, fogs, and lasers, and have your friends wear all white!

Farewell, roaring 20’s

Dress code: black or white

It can be hard to wave goodbye to your roaring 20s! But celebrating a milestone party should not be teary, instead, the new decade should be welcomed with a bang! And what better way to celebrate than with a proper farewell to your 20s? Often called a funeral party, it is a somber-themed party with bursts of rose gold or white to keep the atmosphere up and alive. Gather your nearest and dearest, get a coffin-shaped cake, and take out the tux or LBD for the event. With champagne, delicious food, and the right people, you’ll welcome another trip around the sun with open arms. To make it better, host the event at your favorite restaurant or club and dance the night away!

Casino Royale

Dress code: Black Tie

Make it big and celebrate at a casino! Rent the whole venue or a private room- the choice is yours. If you’ve dreamed of winning at every game in life, now is the time to do so! Bring your pals together for a classy night full of bets. With some of the finest casinos in the U.S, you’ll surely enjoy winning at poker and roulette! Want to add some dazzle to the party and be the next Daniel Craig? Turn your party into a Casino Royale-themed event. It’s the perfect occasion to dust off those fine cufflinks or that diamond choker and host a memorable night of glamor and fun! To make it even more interesting, you can start with an escape room for some mystery and carry on with the party at some classy club in Dupont Circle! Need some inspo? Head to Pinterest and Instagram for some splendid ideas!

Wine and cheese tasting party

Dress code: None needed

Wine aficionados, we've got your back and a cheese board! Maybe you prefer Malbec and parmesan or some rose wine and goat cheese? Whatever it is that you prefer, you’re in for a treat in Washington D.C. Be ready to taste some of the finest imported and local pours in the capital! Head to the vineyards and wineries ( sometimes slightly further than D.C.!) for some grape stomping and to learn how to blend the finest wines. These venues are excellent for hosting an intimate birthday party at any time of the year. Want to make it extra special for your 40s? Add some personal touch to the event, whether it’s customizing the wine glasses or having a cheese tower cake as the centerpiece instead of a classic birthday cake. There are many ways to inject your personality into the event! You may even serve frozen grapes instead of ice to surprise your guests!

Candy Wonderland

Dress code: Pastel Chic

Take them to the candy shop! Got a sweet tooth? Host a candy party in a garden or a cafe. With the appropriate venue at hand, you won’t even need to break a sweat to throw the perfect birthday party. If you have a sweet tooth, this event will surely satisfy your sugar cravings. You can even add a theme like the famous Candy Crush Saga for some nostalgia. Get some pastel paper fans, giant lollipops, and helium balloons for the event. From the table to the food served, all the small things that make up the theme can be personalized and take the birthday party to another level. Dress up as a candy girl, candyman, or however you like for the event! Candy-themed parties are also kid-friendly, so the toddlers can certainly join in and enjoy some of those Skittles!

Disco Night

Dress code: 70's style

Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive! Missing the 70s or 80s? Why not host a throwback party and act like you’re at Studio 54 when wide-legged pants and big hair were a thing? Hang a disco ball at the venue and ask everyone to dress up as their favorite vintage stars for the event. Pump up those good old Cher and Bee Gees beats on the stereo. If you don’t want to host the event at home, clubs and pubs are your go-to. These venues will easily cater to your audiovisual needs and create a fantastic atmosphere for you and your guests to spend an unforgettable night!

K-Pop Party

Dress code: K-Pop Idols

Permission to dance? (Granted!) More of an EXO or Big Bang fan? Throw a K-Pop-themed party on your special day! It’s time for all your friends to finally hop on this musical bandwagon. Get some paper plates and cups with your favorite artists on them, and make sure to host a karaoke party for the event. Have a few friends who enjoy K-pop music? Tell them to join in and sing the night away! Dress up as BTS or Blackpink stars for the event and make sure to get yourself that BTS cake with Jungkook's pretty face you've been dreaming of!

Are there decorating restrictions at party venues?

Yes! Many party venues will not allow you to stick posters or anything else to the walls. For draping and rigging from the ceiling, you may have to ask for permission. Venues frequently don’t allow the use of glitter, confetti, or silly string. However, outdoor venues might allow you to use these. Clarify these details with your venue manager before making a reservation.

Can I bring my alcohol to the venue?

It depends on the venue and the restrictions in place. Some venues might require a one-time event insurance policy if you’re hosting a bash. Some spaces may also charge by the drinker and provide sodas, mixers, ice, and glassware. While another venue might have a strict no BYOB policy. Always discuss this with the manager ahead of time, and you can find the perfect space you need.

How far in advance should I book a party venue?

It’s tough to say, but we always encourage the sooner the better. There are months when popular venues have a full calendar a year in advance and months with openings up to a month prior.

Booked Second Floor at Johnny Pistolas
The facility provided an excellent space. The servers were attentive and efficient. Food was excellent. The tech guy worked with us to enable us to have dance music and run slide show with pictures throughout the evening. Since I was planning from out of state I did all communications via email, the manager was responsive. I highly recommend this venue. My guests all had a fantastic experience.
