Your Guide to Hiring School Halls in London

School halls are seriously underrated. They’re not just for assemblies and sports day, they’re being snapped up for everything from yoga classes and music gigs to formal dinners and weekend markets.

Benefits of Hiring School Halls in London:

Whether it’s for their affordability, flexible seating arrangements, or spacious layouts, there are several reasons why schools serve as great event venues.

  • Affordable rates: If budget is a priority, London school halls are often far cheaper than commercial venues. Many offer flat hire fees with no minimum spend.
  • All across London: From Stratford to Southwark, you’ll find halls close to major transport links and easily reachable by car or public transport.

  • Spacious Interiors & multipurpose use: Most school halls come with open-plan layouts, movable seating, and enough room to make the space your own. They are great for anything from community events to formal dinners.

  • Event-ready amenities: PA systems, projector screens, basic stage setups, and sports flooring are usually available all without added cost.

  • Support local communities: Hiring a school hall often means your money goes back into supporting local education and community programs.

  • Some school halls, like the main hall at Future Academies Watford and the theatre at Bobby Moore Academy Secondary School are available for weekend rentals

These school event halls across the city have flexible layouts, solid facilities, and prices that won’t blow your budget. You can hire for a theatre rehearsal in Islington, a community fundraiser in Croydon, or a kids’ birthday party in Camden.

Things to Keep in Mind When Hiring a School Hall

To make your booking smooth, here are a few things you should check:

  • Licensing & alcohol: Many school venues won’t have a permanent alcohol licence. If you're planning a reception, check if you’ll need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice.

  • Accessibility: Not all schools are fully accessible, so double-check if you need step-free access, lifts, or disabled toilets.

  • Breakout rooms: If you need changing rooms, prep areas or green rooms for performances, ask if adjacent spaces can be included in the hire.

  • Opening hours: Most school halls are only available after school hours or on weekends, so plan accordingly.

What are the potential noise restrictions when booking a school hall in London?

When booking a school hall in London, potential noise restrictions may vary based on the specific location and local regulations. Generally, noise restrictions are in place to ensure minimal disturbance to nearby residents.

It's advisable to inquire about any specific rules or limitations regarding noise levels during booking. Some schools may have strict policies in place to mitigate noise disruptions, particularly during evening or weekend events.

Additionally, be mindful of any applicable noise ordinances the local council sets. For more information on noise regulations in London, you can refer to the official website of the London Borough Council - Noise Pollution Guidance, where the school is located, or consult resources such as the UK Government's guidance on noise pollution.

Great venue which allowed flexibility for how we wanted to use the space. Space is much nicer than it looks in photos. Food platters were great for a party of our size - and quality of food was very nice, including plenty of options for vegans. Staff were very polite and helpful, very accomodating. Highly recommend this venue space.

Booked Keith Chapman Room at Katherine Low Settlement

Great venue and good communication from Cassie to book very last minute! We were holding a fun sports day for our staff which was meant to be outdoors but due to the awful weather we had to find somewhere indoors two days prior to the event! The room worked well for the competitions and the facilities were good. Great value for money especially compared with other venues.
