About The Harpenden Collective

The Harpenden Collective is a Tagvenue Partner. This business has registered with Tagvenue and agreed to our venue partner standards.

The Harpenden Collective holds a long and significant local history. The venue is based in Red Gables, a historic Harpenden building erected in 1906 that served as the studio and home of the artist Francis Owen Salisbury. Frank’s artistic career started with his apprenticeship to his brother James, who ran a stained-glass workshop in St Albans. The window in Red Gables was designed to showcase his work in this field.

In 1913 the house was leased to the Hogg family, where their son George Ayling Hogg, later to be known for his good deeds during the Sino-Japanese War, was born. The Lawes Trust acquired Red Gables in the 1920s and it was there that the various offices, meetings, and activities aimed at the community were held.

The building underwent renovation in 2025 and was relabeled as The Harpenden Collective. Today, it continues to be an environment representing the same values of creativity and community. Venue is located near the station - only 10 minutes walking. It takes another 30 minutes to reach St Pancras by train.
