How to host a fantastic party in Boston?

Whether you're throwing a shindig for your birthday, a simple get-together, or a big corporate event, we've got some tips and tricks to help you plan a fantastic event! Trust us, after you skim this guide, your planning process will be effortless and enjoyable! So what are you waiting for? Start reading now!

  • Set a budget - Firstly, let’s talk about money. Without setting a budget, you won’t be able to kick off your planning! Take some time to decide how much you can pay for everything: from the venue rental, catering, and beverages, to decorations, invitations, etc. Once you nail down the numbers, you’ll have a clear idea of whether you can afford to rent an upscale rooftop bar in Fort Point, or if you should look for a more affordable option Downtown. You will also be able to find great deals and avoid paying more than you’ve initially assumed.
  • Save the best date possible - When picking the perfect date for your celebration, there's no room for error. You have one shot at getting it right!  First, check if your guests don’t have any other events planned on your preferred date, and that it doesn’t collide with any public holidays. Is the calendar clear? Then make sure everyone on your guest list knows all about it! Send out invitations as soon as possible—the earlier they know about it, the more likely they'll mark it in their calendars and show up!
  • Clarify your party goals - What do you want your guests to experience at your party? Is it just a fun night out? Or do you want everyone to feel like they're part of something special as you offer an evening filled with luscious food complemented with fine wine? Perhaps you’d like to introduce your new friends to your old pals? Once you know your goal, then all of your decisions about decorations, music, and food can fall into place. You will also know which party space will serve its purpose to help you create the ambiance you desire.
  • Pick an ideal location - Perhaps North End - filled to the brim with fantastic restaurants and bars? The Theatre District, where everyone flocks to dance their hearts out in the best clubhouses in town? Harvard Square or laid-back Downtown? Boston has a great nightlife scene, so it would be a shame not to use it to your advantage. So book a space in one of the cool areas it offers! Just remember to check if the venue you’re going for has decent access to transportation links so that everyone can reach it without any problems.
  • Think of your food and drink options - Don’t forget about the most essential elements: food and drinks! Whether you’re planning a cocktail party, a sit-down dinner followed, or a casual get-together at one of the breweries, you should serve something that will match the party’s ambiance. Perhaps light finger foods will be ideal for grabbing in between the chatting and mingling, or would you prefer a buffet? Consider the options that you have at your first-choice venue and try to come up with something delicious and exciting at the same time. And if you’re going for a venue that doesn’t have in-house catering, why not add an extra kick and ask your guests to bring their favorite treats and booze? That way, everyone will be happy and full, and you may save a few dollars in your pocket!

FAQs about Party Venues in Boston, MA

How much does it cost to rent a party venue in Boston?

The cost of renting a party venue in Boston depends on various factors, including the size and location of the space, and whether you're interested in renting it on an hourly basis. Generally, most venues charge around $60-$115 per hour, with bars and restaurants offering much lower prices for per-person packages that start as low as $48.

How far in advance should I book a venue for my party in Boston?

Generally, at least three months in advance is the optimum time to book a venue for your party in Boston. This gives you ample time to find the right venue, negotiate the price, and take care of all the necessary planning needed to throw a great party. Some event spaces have higher demands than others; talk with your prospective venue and find out their requirements before booking so you aren't surprised with extra costs or limitations as you plan your party.

Which Boston areas have got great party venues?

If you're looking for a great place to host your party, there are many bars in the Theatre District that can provide everything you need. In addition, the area is easily accessible by public transportation, and it's home to plenty of hotels where you can find affordable accommodations for your guests. And in case you're looking for something more intimate or quirky, you should definitely check out the Seaport District. The area is full of great restaurants and bars, and while they're slightly farther from the city center, they are still easily accessible from Downtown via public transportation.

What are some essentials I need to have at my party?

Apart from the obvious, such as food and drinks, decorations, and music, you should also bring over a med kit with bandaids, kleenex, painkillers, etc. Accidents happen, so it’s better to be safe than sorry and have some basic first-aid necessities prepared!

Booked Bar Area at Fajitas & 'Ritas
Great space to host a party!! The back room was spacious and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Brad was responsive and accommodating, helping us create a menu and talk through all the specific details of the party. We could also hook up to the restaurant speakers to play music, and they worked great! Overall we had a great party experience and would recommend anyone to consider fajitas and Rita’s for their next party!!
