About this space

Theatre, a theatre in The Royal Institution, is a raked lecture auditorium defined by curved, fixed seating and a prominent front screen for presentation-led events.

Design: Theatre follows a horseshoe plan with steeply raked rows upholstered in bright pink, timber panelling around the stage, and narrow balcony galleries that create an enclosed, formal auditorium.

Features: Theatre provides a front stage area, built-in projection and PA system, Wi‑Fi and air conditioning. The space permits own music, includes wheelchair access, accessible toilets and a step-free guest entrance.

Ideal for: Academic and professional groups seeking a formal, presentation-led seated auditorium with strong AV support and clear sightlines.

What sets it apart: A historic lecture theatre that has hosted the Royal Institution's televised Christmas Lectures and earlier demonstrations by Michael Faraday.

What guests say: Theatre makes a strong impression as a memorable, historic lecture space. Theatre is accessible to explore when events are not running and benefits from well-maintained visitor facilities nearby.
