The facilities manageress was very helpful, way beyond average. Noticed this even at booking stage. Other venues had ignored enquiries or sent cut and paste responses. This venue sent a personalised prompt response. It was booked at only 2 days notice as needed faster internet upload speeds than in the house via own router/laptop or phone for an interview on Teams. The room was upgraded without more cost. The building has been refurbished to a very high standard. Visually it could hold its own with similar anywhere and more.
Purpose of booking was a one hour video call on Teams, as candidate with 2 others on call. Wifi appeared to be unable to support a Teams session of 3 people on video.Took till 15 mins after start time to resolve and all of the 30 mins leeway had booked prior to start time. That meant that started shambolically. Having moved room to resolve, did not get a chance to realise mic not working till after late start due to connection not loading. So then sound had to be corrected. This was done by the manageress not me, to give credit where its due. May be their upload speeds are too low, although their download speed may be fast for eg browsing, emails. This may have been reason for freezing imagery and thing plain not loading. The manageress made every effort to resolve urgently. I think was swopped off guest wifi to another to resolve. However, despite booking for two hours, including 30 mins leeway before interview (as candidate), took 45 mins to have a workable connection. So began 15 mins late. Interviewers went through motions, but really, after a late start, the opportunity was lost. Interview began late and was cut short at end as was all lacking credibility. Frankly one of the two interviewers looked annoyed to have to progress interview at all as messy start was coming across as a bit amateurish. Whilst chose to leave venue 45 mins before end of booking, there was little point staying. (Had booked 30 mins extra both at end and at start too for leeway for any issues). The cost annoyed me as booked twice as long as needed to minimise problems. Yet still the very reason for using facilities, faster reliable internet, was not really fit for purpose. A pity as the venue, location and manageress' strong customer focus and good problem resolving skills are all strong assets. The cost was an extravagant waste, but the bigger cost was a good job interview opportunity lost that might not have been elsewhere. Hope venue test both up and download speeds in their meeting rooms. Unsure if no ethernet option normal or if would have helped. Doubt it as for first 45 mins this was like nothing really available, rather than slow. Hence room change given. Ironically the venue is shared with 2 of the biggest broadband providers in UK. However I acknowledge the facilities manager did all within their power to help. I wonder if others had used their mobiles not a laptop and had not run off venue wifi if not had similar issues. This issues were within both meeting rooms. Only appeared to be one other customer at time, more reliable wifi may improve this. Got impression venue appearance may have had more focus than tech side at this new venue. Would not use again as no confidence in its wifi. Would have not have booked had I not been reassured at booking stage video calling was reliable. Sadly not. Tech side needs some work on it.
