About Converted Church
This former Church has been lovingly converted into a spacious boutique photo studio, in the heart of Fitzroy, Melbourne.
Erected in 1859, originally called Bible Christian Church, their first chapel in Melbourne. The Church was formally run predominantly by female ministers and used this chapel as their headquarters until united with the Methodist Church in 1902.
1902- 1910 the building was a Christian Tabernacle.
From 1926 until 1979 the building was a store for the Mattei Brothers, statue makers.
Moulin Rouge Australian editor Jill Bilcock briefly used the space as her studio. The style is Colonial Georgian, seen in the cream brick arches surrounding the windows.
The façade is Greek Revival. The building is heritage listed.
Converted Church is suitable for photo shoots, rehearsals, meetings.
