About this space
The Crypt's Studio One is an MPG-spotlit studio and one of North London's landmark recording spaces. Set in a beautiful mid-Victorian church, Studio One's natural light, high ceilings and wooden floors create an inspiring space that sounds great and is full of character.
The comfortable control room is built around an SSL Origin console, with choice outboards including Neve DPX, Urei 1176, EL-8 Distressor and Watkins Copicat. The adjoining booth and live room houses an array of stellar gear - both classic and curious. The instrument collection includes a rare 270 Butterfly Wurlitzer, a Hammond L100 organ, a Rhodes MKii stage piano, a 120-year-old barless John Broadwood grand piano, a vintage 1964 5-piece Ludwig drum kit, a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 and an antique Deagan Vibraharp vibraphone.
As well as serving as a recording studio, Studio One is fully equipped for filming and photography, and is an in-demand film location. Besides the live room and control room, Studio One also includes a vocal booth and a small kitchenette.
In-house engineers David Simpson and Joe Osborne have worked on projects with a litany of big names over recent years: Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks, Lianne La Havas, Jacob Collier and Liam Gallagher, to name a few.
Alongside work with more commercial artists, The Crypt have helmed a pivot towards the kind of grassroots artists they really care about - evinced by their Grassroots Rates scheme in collaboration with The George Tavern. Recent indie artists that have spent time at the studio are: Faris Badwan, Hercules & Love Affair, WOOM, Shovel Dance Collective, The Gash, Dana Gavanski, Gently Tender and C Turtle, members of caroline, Tapir! and Black Midi. Meanwhile, The Crypt has also hosts intimate performances at which the likes of Cameron Winter and Emily Green of Geese, Ethan P. Flynn, Sarah Meth, Naima Bock, members of Black Country, New Road, caroline, Ugly, HMLTD, Drug Store Romeos and Blue Bendy have performed.

The Crypt Studio is also a popular location for music videos, live sessions, documentaries, biopics, promotional videos and feature films. Lighting and videography are available on request.
The studio has a kitchen, toilets, air conditioning and heating, private access and a private smoking area.
