Entire Venue at Not Just Curries Balmain

About this space

At "Not Just Curries", we strive to serve real Indian food to Sydneysiders using the best of fresh Australian produce.

We present a simple menu to introduce ourselves to the regular dishes that are more than just curries. We have tried to create the same taste as served back in India or at our homes.

Indian cuisine is probably the most diverse cuisine in the world but sometimes the perception is that Indian food is just “curry”.

The antiquated heritage of Indian cuisine goes back thousands of years and boasts of an assorted menu of cuisines and not just one cuisine.

This includes a whopping 300 ways of cooking a potato. While “Indian food” is synonymous with ‘curry, naan bread, and pappadams’, there is certainly more to it. So what is Curry? Curry is generally referred to as a spiced gravy-based side dish which is based on standard curry powder.

Go to a grocery store and you will find at least 30 odd different types of the so-called ‘curry powder’. The assumption that all curries are made of a standard ‘curry powder’ is far from the truth.

This spicy gravy generally knows as curry is made of a number of different spices and herbs with subtle variations across different dishes. The art of cookery has been so perfected in the 10,000-year-old continuous Indian civilization that besides the flavor they also have excellent health value with lots of goodness packed in our masalas...

Many recipes that are based on Ayurvedic principles not only satisfy the taste buds but also take care of the physical well-being.

So, Indian food is not just one type of food. Served authentically in the right portion size, it can be the right food for the right climate for the right body type.

With the aim to inspire food lovers and present a variety of delectable dishes that are “not just curries”, three food enthusiasts and culinary professionals have created a dining experience what they enjoy best from their homeland.
