About New Women Space

New women space is a community organizing space.

100% of our programming is led by women, POC, femme, queer, transgender, and gender nonconforming individuals.

New Women Space was founded in 2016 as a 30-day pop-up. Founding members, Sandy Hong and Melissa Wong. Kickstarted by a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised over $17K in less than 2 weeks, NWS has continued to evolve and maintain its operations over the past years through community organizing, fundraising, strategic partnerships with mission-aligned groups focused on relational community building and principles of emergent strategy.

April 1, 2019, Eva Woolridge and Sage Youngblood took over as the guardians of New Women Space. They usher in a new, fresh and dynamic era. Maintaining the principles by which New Women Space was founded and growing it to meet the new challenges of today with their own look and feel applied to the whole of the space.

On March 13, 2020, the third generation of New Women Space guardians arrived on the scene. Haitian-American sibling duo, Michelle and Philip Alerte stepped into the role with joy and excitement. They bring into this new era of the New Women Space, a profound respect and understanding for the principles upon which NWS was founded. Additionally, they look to the future, remaining connected to the people and communities they serve to ensure they are meeting each new need as it arises. Now, more than ever, there is a need for safe spaces where we who are often ignored and “othered” in mainstream society can feel seen, heard, and can shine to the fullest of our potential. Welcome to your space.
